Thomas Wade

     Thomas Wade was born on 1 October 1753 in Killavally, Westmeath. He was the third son of Thomas Wade, of Killavally, Co. Westmeath, which he sold 1756, and later of lands in Co. Galway, which he purchased.
Thomas Wade married (?) Lowe in Ireland. She was the daughter of Colonel Lowe of Newtonlowe.
Thomas Wade married secondly Margaret Ann Handy in Ireland. One pedigree describes him as "of Dublin". He married thirdly Miss Walsh of Walshpark by whom he had no issue.
     Thomas Wade was mentioned in the will of Samuel Handy dated 1 July 1779. He was described as his son in law.
     Thomas resided at Fairfield, Galway, 1779.
     Thomas died in Galway. Mr Wade having disposed of his property in Westmeath, purchased one in the co. of Galway, where he continued to reside until his death, and was succeeded by his eldest surviving son Samuel.
The Wade family held lands at Carrowmore, barony of Kilconnell during the late 18th and 19th centuries. In the 1870s Rochford Wade was in possession of over 1100 acres in county Galway. In 1906 he held over 900 acres of untenanted land in the area.
Fairfield House (H958). Lewis records Fairfield as the residence of T. Wade in 1837. It is described in the Ordnance Survey Name books as "built on rising ground from which there is a good prospect". At the time of Griffith's Valuation the house was being leased by Thomas Wade from the Handy estate. In 1906 it was in the possession of Rochford Wade when it was valued at £23. Fairfield House is no longer extant and the demesne is the focus for a major sawmilling operation
.      
Thomas Wade paid the Griffith Valuation at Carrowmore in the 1850s in Aughrim, Galway, Ireland. A Thomas Wade occupied house offices herds & stewards houses and 755 acres of land valued at £425 and sublet the school house, offices and garden to William Cowen.
