     Alice Tyes was born before 1287 in Chilton, Wiltshire, England. She was the sister of Henry, Lord Tyas and daughter of Henry & Hawise Lord Teyes of Shirburn, Oxford, and was aged 30 or 32 in 1327.
     Alice Tyes married Warin de Lisle, son of Gerard de Lisle and Alice de Armenters, before 1304. Warin de Lisle, of Kingston Lisle (in Sparsholt), Berkshire (died
1322) married before 1304 Alice, daughter of Henry Teyes, Lord Teyes, of Alverton, Cornwall, and Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire, by his wife, Hawise.
     In a 1326 deed between Drogo de Barentyn, sheriff of Berkshire, and Alice widow of Warin de Insula. 13 Dec. 20 Edw. II - Drogo has handed over to Alice the manor of Kingestone, with its revenues since Michaelmas, and the lands, goods and chattels which lately belonged to Hugh le Despencer, earl of Winchester, which were taken into the king's hands on 27 Oct. last.

Nature of request: Alice de Lisle makes two requests.1) She asks for the restoration of the manors of Kingston Lisle, Beedon, Hidden and Lambourn, and their issues, which she held jointly with her husband and which had been taken into the king's hands following her husband's execution on a false judgment.2) Alice requests the restoration to her of the lands of her late brother, of whom she is the heir. These lands are also in the king's hands following a false judgment against Henry.1) Nature of endorsement: On the first petition, let it be sent to the Chancery, and the Chancellor shall advise on the reason for the lands and tenements being in the king's hands, and if they were taken on account of the dispute and no other then let them be restored by due process.2) On the second petition, because the process against Henry, examined in full parliament, is shown to be erroneous and has been repealed by common assent of all present, let the heir be restored to her heritage by due process, notwithstanding the judgment. Date derivation: The petition clearly seeks to restore forfeitures made in the aftermath of the Lancaster revolt of 1322. Inquisitions post mortem for both Lisle and Tyes were held in 1327, and given that the petitioner refers to 'false judgments', the petition would seem to date from early in the reign of Edward III. Alice was the heir of her brother Henry at his Inquisition Post Mortem on 8 February 1326/27 Alice, late the wife of Warin de Insula [or de Lyle] sister of the said Henry, aged 30 years and more, is his next heir. She inherited lands of Braken in the East Riding of York, and Hordwell & Ordstone or Herdestone in Berks, and Schyrebourne & Fretwell in Oxford - the latter being held of Robert de Insual by service of a knight''s fee, and the manor of Ok held of the said Robert by service of a third part of a knigt's free. Heir as above, aged 32 years or more. She also inherited lands in Wiltshire and Cornwall.
     In 1334, Alice, widow of Warin de Lisle, had leave to transfer the bodies of her late husband and that of her brother, Henry Teyes, Lord Teyes, to Chilton, "where her ancestors were buried and where chantries were founded." It appears she was supported in her petition to have remove the bodies by her kinsman, William de Montagu, Earl of Salisbury, which fact is overlooked by Complete Peerage. Clearly the connection between Alice de Lisle and the Earl of Salisbury must have been close. However, to date, no one has
identified the connection between the two parties. A good bet, however, is that the connection comes through Alice de Lisle's mother, Hawise (wife of Henry Teyes), born say 1265. Reviewing the Montagu family tree, it seems a distinct possibility that Hawise Teyes was the daughter of the Earl of Salisbury's great aunt, Hawise de Montagu, who married Geoffrey de Neville, of Laceby, co. Lincoln. I say that because I have encountered a record which shows that Henry Teyes and Ingram Folenfaunt, and their wives, held property as co-parceners in Redbourne, Lincoln in 1285 [Reference: Cal. IPM]. Redbourne is associated with a Neville family, although I am unclear if this is same family as the Neville family of Laceby.
If Alice de Lisle's grandmother was Hawise de Montagu, this
arrangement would make Alice and her kinsman, the Earl of Salisbury, second cousins. If correct, then Alice de Lisle would share the Earl's descent from the baronial Basset family of Buckinghamshire and
from the Gay family of Wiltshire.
     Alice died on 2 August 1347 in Sheffield district, Yorkshire, England. Calendar of Inquisiton P.M. v.9 #571 has a lengthy description which I have lost in a cut & paste.

She was described as aged 22, wife of Thomas Hagirston, on 18 June 1421.. She was the daughter of Sir Thomas de Umfraville and Agnes Unknown (Umfraville).

     Elizabeth de Umfraville (Elmeden) was born after 18 June 1390 in Harbottle, Northumberland, England. She was aged 30, wife of William Elmeden, kt. in June 1421. She was the daughter of Sir Thomas de Umfraville and Agnes Unknown (Umfraville).
     Elizabeth died on 23 November 1424. 3 Hen VI (1450?). She left 4 daughters: Agnes (Claxton), Elizabeth (Dalton), Isabel (Tempest) and Joan (Forster).

     Gilbert de Umfraville was the son of Gilbert de Umfraville Earl of Angus and Elizabeth Comyn.

     Gilbert died. He left no issue.. He was the son of Gilbert de Umfraville 3rd Earl of Angus and Joan Willoughby.

     Gilbert de Umfraville was the son of Richard de Umfraville and Maud, Countess of Angus.
     He succeeded to the barony of Prudhoe, and doing homage, 2 Henry III and paying £100, for his relief, had livery of his lands. In the 13th of the same reign he was one of the northern barons appointed by the king to be at Berwick upon Tweed upon Sunday before Mid-Lent, to attend Alexander of Scotland, thence to York, where the English monarch met the Scottish king, and to a charter between the two princes the name of Gilbert de Umfreville is affixed as a witness.
     Gilbert de Umfraville lived at Prudhoe, Northumberland.
     Gilbert died in 1244. He died 29 Henry III, according to Matthew Paris "a famous baron, guardian and chief flower of the north'.
