John Thwaites

( - 1469)
     Thwaites was a manor enumerated with Keighley in the domesday book. John de Thwaites possessed it in 1316. In the 15th century this family became possessed of Denton in Wharfdale. These arms were on the slab of the tomb, which (in 1858) lies in the south chapel, and which has for years been erroneously regarded as the tomb of the founder of the church. The shield still remains, but the arms are effaced.
     John Thwaites married Isabella Ryther, daughter of Sir William Ryther and Sibyl Aldeburgh. John was a noted lawyer.
     John Thwaites made a will dated 22 January 1461.
     John died in 1469. He was buried in 1469 in Harewood, Yorkshire.
     His will was proved in 1469 in the Prerogative Court of York.

This being the record? the said Herriot Tindal been guilty of the sin of fornication the Session therefore defer this case until she received an acknowledgement of the paternity from the imputed father who she says is willing to acknowledge the same. In the meantime the said Hariot Tindal being rebuked & exhorted by the moderate, the Session closed with prayer.
     Harriet Tindal was mentioned in the kirk session records on 21 August 1853 in Cromarty. Compeared Harriot Tindal in reference to a former minute of the Session of date 21 September 1852 and produced a letter of acknowledgment from the father of her child in the said letter he frankly declares the paternity and se... her to have the said child baptised. The Session being satisfied with the acknowledgement in the said letter do agree to the child being baptised & the said Hariot Tindal be suitably exhorted & admonished by the Moderate and absolved from the scandal & restored to her former privileges. Harriet was present at John Sinclair's christening on 21 August 1853 in Cromarty, ROC, SCT. Sinclair, John: illegitimate son to George Sinclair an native of Cadburgh [Leadburgh?] and Harriot Tindal in Cromarty was born 14 July 1852 and baptised 21 August 1853..
