Abraham Bland went back to Suffolk and put a'' gold sovereign on the table for Charles & Abi's fare to Australia, but Abi wouldn't go. Abraham said he had a sheep farm and a good living there.

Mrs Bird living nearby ran onto the bridge and saw him floating in the water, quite dead. He was buried on 7 June 1857 at Hessett.
