     In Thomas Silvester's will dated 17 August 1679 at Ecclesfield, Anne Silvester was named as heir; Memorandum ... I Thomas Silvester of Chapeltown within the parish of Ecclesfield .... gives five pounds each to his son John of Portsmouth, daughters Sarah & Anne & sons Thomas and Edward. The remainder to his younger children Priscilla, Henry, Martha & Elizabeth to be equally divided and appoints his wife Mary Silvester and son Nicholas Silvester joint executors. Witnessed by William Smith, John Silvester.
     She was mentioned in her brother's will dated Nov 1696 as being a servant to his daughter (Elizabeth Freeman). But his implies that Edward is the son of Thomas ... which appears not to be so.
     Anne Silvester was mentioned in the will of Henry Silvester dated 5 March 1707/8.
     Anne died before 11 August 1711 at Ecclesfield, YKS. She was buried on 11 August 1711 at Ecclesfield.
     Anne Silvester made a will dated 14 August 1711. Mrs Anne Silvester, spinster, sister to John Silvester of Burthwaite, left among other things the income of two hundred pounds to be given and distributed yearly some time before Easter, at the discretion of the Trustees to the Poor house-keepers within Greno Firth or Quarter, and that the income of the residue or remainder, be it more or less, be employed in putting forth of poor children belonging to the abovesaid Firth or Quarter to trades, the Vicar of Ecclesfield for the time being to be always a Trustree, and the rest to be nominated by my executor John Silvester, of Burthwaite, in the parish of Darton, co. York. The "residue or remainder" was about 100 pounds and the whole of Mrs Silvester's bequest to the parish was laid out in purchasing a farm at Whitley.

     Edward Silvester was born say 1570. He was the son of Robert Silvester and Elizabeth Unknown (Silvester).
     Edward Silvester married Anne Smith on 5 August 1593 at Ecclesfield, Yorkshire. He was a churchwarden at Ecclesfield, YKS, in 1594.
     Edward Silvester married Lucy Oxspring on 29 January 1598/99 at Ecclesfield, YKS. Edward Silvester was a church member in 1616 at Ecclesfield, YKS. He was feoffee of the local church.
     Edward died in 1623 at High Green, Yorkshire.
     A footnote on p.24 of Gatty's Registers of Ecclesfield states that he was of High Green, in this parish. He was churchwarden for Grenofirth district in the years 1594 and 1615, and ffeofee in 1616. He was married twice. He had other children apart from Nicholas.
     Eastwood, in his History of Ecclesfield p.299, states that the Mortomley Lane End Hospital was founded by Edward Sylvester, of the Tower of London, Esq. who in April 21st 1693, conveyed for a term of 6000 years, certain lands at Womersley, in the county of York, to John Parkin, of Mortomley, Nicholas Sylvester, and John Allen in trust for the use of the Poor of Ecclesfield, to build for them an hospital as above described, and to pay thirty shillings a year to each of the occupants, or more if the estate produced more. Mr Nicholas Sylvester [died Sep 20, 1702] was to have the patronage during his life, and then the Vicar and Churchwardens of Ecclesfield (who were thenceforth to act as trustees), or any two of them, the Vicar being always one, to have the nomination.
The land at Womersley was sold in 1718 (the writings were signed at Barnsley Oct 3 1718, and registered at Wakefield) to Mr Tobiah Harvey, of Womersley, for 580/- ...
     Eastwood, p.300, states that a family of Silvester resided somewhere about High Green or Chapel Town, and the name occurs frequently in the parish records, the earliest being Robert Sylvester buried 1583, Edward Silvester, churchwarden in 1594, feoffee in 1616. The latter was described in the parish register as "of Hyegrene' in September 1599. A tombstone near the S E door of the church records the deaths of several members of the family: Thos: Silvester of Chapeltown, bur: Aug 21 1679; Eleanor his wife May 20 1669, Children by her, Mary bur 1668, Nicholas Sep 26 1702, Ann Aug 11, 1711. Mary wife of Nicholas Silvester July 4th 1702. Mary 2nd wife of Thos: Silvester Feb 15th 1679; by whom he had Hannah, bur. Oct 3 1677; Elizabeth March 20th 1682; Martha April 6 1683..

     His will was proved on 23 January 1697 at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Proved by the oath of John Silvester, one of the executors however, reserved was the power of like administration to be made to to Thomas Silvester, Edward Hubbart also Hubbald and Thomas Gilbert the other executors when they come or the other of them comes seeking the same.

     Rev Edward Silvester married Anna Maria Wentworth, daughter of Godfrey Wentworth, on 21 November 1726 at Hickleton, Yorkshire. John Hobson's diary records: Nov 16^th,
At Barnsley. Mr Sylvester, of Burthwaite, was married the Monday before, at Hickelton, with Miss Wentworth, daughter of Mr Godfrey Wentworth, deceased, brother to the present Mr Wentworth, of Wooley. She married secondly Mr Bold of Lancashire.
     Edward died on 24 November 1727 at Birthwaite Hall, Kexborough, Darton, Yorkshire. Hobson claimed that his death was the long term effect of a fall which he incurred while attemting to assist the Countess of Strafford (from nearby Wentworth Castle) out of her coach when she was paying them a visit. He was buried on 30 November 1727 at Darton. John Hobson's diary records: 30^th Nov 1727: At Darton. Saw the funerall of Mr Edward Silvester, who was buried in a vault under the south quier, where his unkle John Silvester was allso buried. He had been married about a year to M^s Wentworth and, soon after he was married, the Countess of Strafford went to pay him a visit; and, as he handed her ladyship out of the coach up the stepps, his foot slipt, and he fell upon his back, and was never right well after. He was bred up a clergyman, and was minister at Wickersly, nigh Rotherham, which he quitted when his unkle left him the estate. He died without issue. He has an elder brother, who is married, and has children, but his uncle left the estate from him, because he had disoblieged him by marrying.

     In Thomas Silvester's will dated 7 April 1727 at the Tower of London, Elizabeth Silvester was named as heir; His will left £2000 his mother Sarah Silvester, he leaves bequests (£200) to his brother William Silvester & his sisters Hannah Silvester, Elizabeth Gilbert Wife of William Gilbert of Pancras Lane London, his brother in law Mr Thomas Gilbert of Thames Street London. Smaller bequests (£100) were given to his cousin Sarah Turner of the Tower of London Spinster, his cousin Anne Clay of the Tower of London Spinster, [his later brother in law] Mr William Berrisford Mariner now belonging to the good ship the Princess of Wales in the service of the East India Company and friend Mr Thomas Harrison of the parish of St. Botolph Aldgate linen draper and £50 to Mr Robert East of the parish of St. Olave Hart Street London now apprentice to Mr Plant Wine Merchant when he turned 21.
He also gave to his brother William Silvester £100 in trust to place the same out at interest or otherwise improve the same on parliamentary security to pay quarterly to his Uncle Hezekiah Clay and Mary his wife.
He also gave £100 to share between his mother and brother William along with the residue of the estate and appointed them executors.

     Elizabeth Silvester married Unknown Freeman. An Elizabeth Sylvester married Ralph Freeman, on 22 June 1680 in Clerkenwell, London.
     Elizabeth Freeman was a defendant (with Ambrose Pudsey) in the court of equity pleadings. She had brough a writ of dower in the Court of Common Pleas against her son who had since gone tot eh East Indies,thereby depriving the plaintiff (Thomas Barlow) of the value of some of the testators Freeman's property, part of which was claimed as payment for the son's debts by writ of elegit from the King's Bench, and part had been leased to Edward Silvester, the other plaintiff. Local field and place names inc. Howsley Hall, Chapeltown and Ecclesfield are given. Others mentioned were Francis Barlow, Thomas Freeman and Howsley Freeman.

     Francis Silvester was christened on 30 May 1613 at Ecclesfield. He was the son of Edward Silvester and Lucy Oxspring.

     Hannah Silvester was born say 1692. She was the daughter of Thomas Silvester and Sarah Clay.
     Hannah Silvester and Sarah Silvester, Elizabeth Silvester, Edward Silvester, William Silvester, Thomas Silvester, Rebecca Silvester, Elizabeth Gilbert, Mary Gilbert and Sarah Gilbert were beneficiaries in Thomas Silvester's will dated 28 February 1710 at London.
     Hannah Silvester was mentioned in the will of John Silvester dated 5 January 1719/20.
     In Thomas Silvester's will dated 7 April 1727 at the Tower of London, Hannah Silvester was named as heir; His will left £2000 his mother Sarah Silvester, he leaves bequests (£200) to his brother William Silvester & his sisters Hannah Silvester, Elizabeth Gilbert Wife of William Gilbert of Pancras Lane London, his brother in law Mr Thomas Gilbert of Thames Street London. Smaller bequests (£100) were given to his cousin Sarah Turner of the Tower of London Spinster, his cousin Anne Clay of the Tower of London Spinster, [his later brother in law] Mr William Berrisford Mariner now belonging to the good ship the Princess of Wales in the service of the East India Company and friend Mr Thomas Harrison of the parish of St. Botolph Aldgate linen draper and £50 to Mr Robert East of the parish of St. Olave Hart Street London now apprentice to Mr Plant Wine Merchant when he turned 21.
He also gave to his brother William Silvester £100 in trust to place the same out at interest or otherwise improve the same on parliamentary security to pay quarterly to his Uncle Hezekiah Clay and Mary his wife.
He also gave £100 to share between his mother and brother William along with the residue of the estate and appointed them executors.

     Hannah Silvester was christened on 24 June 1676 at Ecclesfield, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Thomas Silvester and Mary Smith.
     Hannah died before 3 October 1677 at Ecclesfield, YKS. She was buried on 3 October 1677 at Ecclesfield.

     Harriet Silvester was born. I have lost the source of this child? She is not mentioned in the wills of either parent or her brother or her uncle John. She was the daughter of Thomas Silvester and Sarah Clay.
