     Catherine Ryther married Robert Popplewell, son of David Popplewell (son of David, of Belton) and Jane Brewer, on 24 February 1686/87 in Epworth, LIN.
     Abraham de la Pryme stated that in 1689, Popplewell paid to Mr Reading 500 pounds in order to save his wife's bacon, and ye rest of his friends and rioters.
     For no sooner had the Sheriff of Lincolnshire, by virtue of a writ of assistance, given the several parties [to the dispute over the commons] possession of their allotments, and the tenants of the Participants proceeded to plough and sow the same, than, while the corn was yet growing, "a great nuber of men in disguise, women and children, with Popplewell's wife at their head, came and pulled down, demolished, and burnt the fences, and destroyed the corn". About this time ... they assaulted him [Nathaniel Reading] and his sons and servants night and day, shot at him desperately, and killed and destroyed his cattle. Not being satisfied with the perpetration of these violent outrages, that furious woman, Popplewell's wife, again headed a desparate mob, with a torch in her hand, set fire to his crops, and pulled down his house.
     In Robert Ryther's will dated 23 September 1693 in Lincolnshire, Catherine Ryther was named as heir; In the name of God amen I Robert Ryther the elder in the county of Lincoln Esq languishing under a great indisposition of health in body but of sound and perfect memory praised be God for it, yet ... the frailtyes and uncertainty of this natural life, and being and being desirous to settle and dispose of what God almighty has been pleased to lend me here in his world doe declare therefore and make this my last will and testament in manner following First I commend my soule unto the hands of Almighty God trusting through the merits of my saviour Jesus Christ to ... ... Glory and as to my worldly estate and goods which I have I dispose and give as followeth:
Imprimus I give and bequeath to the poor of Belton twenty shilling to be paid unto the hands of Mr Robert Medley of Belton at my funerall and to be by him then distributed at his discretion
Item I give unto Francis Chatts widower twenty shillings to dispose of at the discretion of my executor hereafter named
Item I give unto my son Robert Ryther and my daughter Catherine the wife of Robert Poplewell Esq each of them twelve pounds a piece to be paid within twelve months after my death (being lawfully demanded)
Item I give unto my daughter Rebecah Hartropp a broad piece of gold worth five & twenty shillings & six pence
Item all the rest of my personal estate, plate goods, moneys whatsoever undisposed of I give unto my daughter Susannah Ryther whom I make sole Executrix of this my last will & testament revoking hereby all other wills by me heretofore made
In witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand and seal the three & twentieth day of September in the fift yeare of the reign of the sovereigne Lord and Lady William & Mary King & Queen of England A.D. 1693. Robert Ryther (his mark). Catherine was a defendant in a court case in Lent 1694 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. She was fined. Nathaniel Reading's corn and fences were on one occasion burnt by a mob headed the wife of Robert Popplewell, the solicitor to the Commoners, a gentleman of some figure and distinction, who, like another Alectol, herself carried a fiery brand. She and other rioters were indicted at the Lent Assizes for the county of Lincoln, 1694, but on submission they were allowed escape all punishment on the payment of a small fine.. Catherine and Richard was a beneficiary in Robert Ryther's will proved 27 May 1696 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.
     On 25 February 1698, after the burning of Reading's house, etc., Robert Popplewell applied to Colonel Whichcott and Colonel Pawnell to intercede with Mr Reading not to press matters to extremities. Mr Reading agreed to refer the business to these gentlemen; who awarded that Popplewell and the other rioters should pay £600, on condition that all legal proceedings against them were stayed.
On 10 September 1701 Robert Popplewell and Catherine Ryther sold property in Westgate, Belton. By deed poll of grant - Parties: Robert Popplewell of Belton, gent and Katarene his wife, to Edward Dutton of Belton, tailor. Messuage situate in Belton Westgate together with a croft adjoining containing 2 acres the ground of Richard Kinman on the north, the heirs of John Good on the south abutting on the ground of George Taylor on the west and the King's highway on the east. Consideration £45. Signed and sealed Robert Popplewell & Katrene Popplewell.
     Catherine died on 9 January 1711/12 in Belton, Lincolnshire, aged 49. She was buried on 9 January 1711/12 in Belton. Memorial in Belton church: Hic jacet Catherine, uxor. Rob.
