     Shadrach Squirrell and Mary Ottewell appeared on the 1891 census at The Lane, Drinkstone. Shadrach Squirrell, aged 66, shepherd, with his wife Mary aged 62, Alice 16, grand daughter, all born at Drinkstone and living in a four roomed house.

     Susan Squirrell was born circa 1834 at Bildeston, Suffolk. She was the daughter of William Freeman Squirrell and Susan Ward.

     Susannah Squirrell was christened on 26 February 1837 at Wattisham, Suffolk. She was the daughter of Thomas Squirrell and Phoebe Taylor.

     Tabitha Ann Squirrell was born on 13 August 1815 at Chelmsford, Essex, England. She was the daughter of Rev William Squirrell and Phoebe Squirrell.

     Tabitha Cumi Squirrell was born on 8 April 1813 at Chelmsford, Essex, England. She was the daughter of Rev William Squirrell and Phoebe Squirrell.

     Thomas Squirrell was born circa 1808 at Wattisham, Suffolk. A birth was recorded at the Baptist Meeting House 31 Dec 1808 as son of Thomas & Mary, but this could be in error for Benjamin & Mary. He was the son of Benjamin Squirrell and Mary Chaplin. He was christened on 18 April 1813 at Bildeston.

There were 2 Ben Squirrells in the village, one aged 12 and the other 18, ag. lab. As Ben was baptised with his sister it may not have been an infant baptism.

     The two Thomas' need more work to establish which married Phoebe Taylor & had children Ben & Susan, but it seems more likely that the son of Ben would name his son Ben. Thomas Squirrell was born on 1 December 1808 at Wattisham, Suffolk. His birth was recorded at the Baptist Meeting House as son of Thomas & Mary, but this could be in error for Benjamin & Mary. He was the son of Thomas Squirrell and Mary Dykes.

In the 1674 hearth tax there were 4 certified [as exempt] Squirrells at Hitcham: Jer. & Richard with 2 hearths and Henry Sungrell [sic] & Jo. Squrrell with 2 hearths. Paying 8/- ship money in 1639/40 at Hitcham was Hen Squirrell. There was also a Henry Squirrell in paying 1/8 in Buxhall..
