     George Rich was christened on 5 July 1798 in Carlton-in-Lindrick, Nottinghamshire. He was the son of William Rich and Mary Barlow.

George Rich, head, married 51, born Carlton, Nottingham, farmer of 60 acres, employing 1 labourer and carpenter employing 1 apprentice; Jane, wife aged 51, born Middlewich, Cheshire; Elizabeth aged 17 and Lydia Jane aged 15, daughters born Hooton, Yorkshire. This is the last will and testament of me George Rich of Laugton en le Mortham in the West Riding of the county of York, wheelwright and farmer I will and direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses shall be paid by my executor ... unto George Chapman of Dinnington ... to my wife ... the remainder between my two daughters Elizabeth Bramall and Lydia Jane Rich ... He was buried on 28 February 1860 in All Saints, Laughton en le Morthen.
     George died on 28 February 1860 in Laughton en le Morthen, YKS, aged 61.
     His will was proved on 28 November 1860 in the Principal Probate Registry, London.      George was educated in Sydney Grammar School. He shared the Knox junior prize with A B Paterson in 1875.
     George matriculated at Sydney University c 1880 to 1885 and was awarded He was a founder of Hermes and of the Boat Club. He was admitted to the degree of Doctor of Laws (Honorary Causa) 29 August 1952 at Sydney University. Classics - B.A. 1883, M.A. 1885.
     George Edward Rich KCMG, PC travelled to England circa 1886. He went overseas before being called to the Bar. George was a barrister & lecturer from 10 March 1887, New South Wales. He was admitted to the Bar on 10 March 1887. In 1890 he was elected Challis lecturer on the foundation of Sydney University Law school. By the mid 1890's he had a leading Equity practice from Selborne Chambers, 176 Philip Street, Sydney. He was joint author of several text books on equity. 1913, 1910 resigned as lecturer in Equity, Probate, Bankruptcy & Company Law. Visited England on case.
John Ashby Hooper holds his bible/prayer book dated 29 March 1887 which lists family events and states that his father was born 26 Jun 1829.

     Hamor died on 22 October 1939 in Woollahra, New South Wales, aged 83. MR. H. C. ELLISON RICH - The death occurred at Woollahra on Sunday of Mr. H. C. Ellison Rich, who was one of the oldest solicitors in Sydney. He was the son of the late Rev. Charles Rich, and the elder brother of Sir George Rich, of the High Court. He retired from practice two years ago.
For three years he was president of the New South Wales Law Institute, and was on the council for 35 years. His wife prede- ceased him. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Colin Ross of Sydney, and a son Mr. C Ellison Rich, of London
The funeral, which was private, took place at South Head Cemetery and was preceded by a service conducted by Arohdeacon Langley at All Saints' Woollahra where Mr. Ellison Rich had been rector's warden for more than
25 years
. He was buried in South Head.
     His will was proved on 9 February 1940 in New South Wales.
