     Alice Rich was born before April 1837 in Rotherham, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Amor Rich and Prudence Hollingsworth.
     Alice Rich married John Firth.

     Her birth was registered in the quarter ending in June 1877 in Doncaster RD, Yorkshire. Alice Rich was the daughter of Henry Rich.

     Her birth was registered in the quarter ending in March 1851 in Retford, Nottinghamshire. Alice Mary Rich was the daughter of Amor Rich and Mary Rayner. Elizabeth, Frances and Alice were listed as the children of Amor Rich in the 1851 census in Ordsall, Nottinghamshire. Elizabeth, Frances and Alice were listed as the children of Amor Rich in the 1861 census in 11 Blackfriargate?, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire. Elizabeth and Alice were listed as the children of Amor Rich in the 1871 census in 45 Warwick St, Southcoates, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire.

     Alice Vera Rich was born before April 1867 in Helperby, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Henry Rich and Annie Unknown. Charles, Henry, Frederick and Alice were listed as the children of Henry Rich in the 1871 census in Helperby, YKS. Henry, Frederick and Alice were listed as the children of Henry Rich in the 1881 census in 2 Gray Street, York. Alice Vera Rich was listed as Henry Rich's daughter in the 1891 census in 13 St Ann's St, Fulford, York.
     Alice Vera Rich married William Norman on 6 September 1894 in Ardsley, Yorkshire.

      Amor Rich was also known as Emor in some records. He was christened on 4 January 1679/80 in Kirkburton, Yorkshire. Emor son of Daniel Rich. Brooks claims John & Aymor to be children of Jonas Rich of the parish of Penistone, the supposed brother of Edward, Joseph & Daniel Rich. He was the son of Daniel Rich.
     Amor Rich married Martha Halliwell on 10 June 1712 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire. He possibly married the sister of Thomas Ellison of Higham, Yorkshire who was executor 1748-50.      
Amor Rich and Amor Rich paid land tax in 1712 in Sheffield district, Yorkshire, England. In the land tax assessment for the Barnsley area Emer Rich pays 17/4 at Cawthorne and £1/0/1 at Hoyland Swaine. Emer Rich paid £7/1/7 at Thurlestone.
     He was of Daw Walls in Cawthorne. He had lands in Penistone & heir in remainder to the Thurlstone lands under the will of his uncle Jonas 1713/4 & aunt Sarah 1714. In 1723 an Emor Rich sr. of Yate House paid 10/6 at Penistone.
     Amor Rich was employed by He was called Hamor, a clothier at his son Jonas' baptism 1713 as a clothier in 1713, Cawthorne, YKS.
     In Jonas Rich's will dated 20 March 1713/14 in Penistone, Yorkshire,, Amor Rich was named as heir; Jonas mentions his wife Sarah in his will. They left lands to their nephew Jonas then Amor, sons of Daniel Rich, and mentioned his nephew John. In the name of God amen I Jonas Rich of Pond in the parish of Penistone being weak in body ... to my loving wife Sara ... household goods and all manner of .... to dispose of as she thinks fit ...

Amor Rich paid land tax from 1714 to 1728 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire. In 1712 he is first listed for Cawthorne land tax assessment paying 17/4, his brother John was next entry at 18/8. In September 1714 he paid 8/8 as Hamor Rich, in 1715 Hamor Rich paid 17/4, 1717 Emor paid the same amount, 1723 Emor paid 8/8 tax and 1/4 tithe, 1728 paid 15/-.
     In Sarah Unknown's will dated 24 October 1714 in Penistone, Amor Rich was named as heir; I Sara Rich of Pond in the parish of Penistone & county of York Spr being infirme & weak of body but of perfect mind & memory doe make this my last will and testament in manner & forme following - Imprimis my will & mind is & I doe hereby devise that all my just debts funerall expense be paid by my executor hereafter named out of all my personal estate
Item I give and devise to my grandson George Lindley tenn pounds & to my grandaughter Sara Bagshaw tenn pounds and to Alice Lindley my grandaughter tenn pounds all which severall sums are instead of any share of the goods in the dwelling house at Pond except to Alice Lindley to whom I give one bed in the parlor with feather bed & a pair of sheets & one pair of blanketts & a coverlet:

Amor Rich was mentioned as tenant in the manor court rolls dated on 15 November 1714 in Penistone, YKS, Copy surrender: Court of Sir William Boseville, Manor of Penistone. It was presented that Jonas Rich, lately deceased, surendered on 13 March last, to Sir Godfrey Boseville lately deceased then lord of the manor of Peniston, a messuage called Woodend with several closes and lands to such uses as would be revealed in his will. It was also presented that the said Jonas Rich had by will dated 23 March last left the premises to the use of Sarah Rich his wife for her life and after her death to the use of Amor Rich. On 22 April 1716 Amor Rich leased property in Woodend, Cawthorne. Lease and counterpart: Emor Rich of Cawthorne to Joseph Parkinson of parish of Penistone. Several closes called Chappell Close, the Thorne and Little pingle, the New Close with a pingle adjoining in Penistone for 21 years for a yearly rent of 2/10/-

A messuage called Woodend in Penistone with buildings and lands, etc. for 21 years at a yearly rent of 3/10/-.. He contributed to the parish poor rate in Cawthorne in 1718 as Amor Rich, North Lane Quarter. He was listed on the rent roll of Capt. Bosville's estate, Martinmas 1722, for property in Cawthorne.
     In 1722 Emor Rich paid rent of £6/15/3 to Capt Bosville for land at Cawthorne, and 3/6 for land at the Wood-end in Pennyston Manour copyhold rts, at Martinmas. In 1723 an Emor Rich sr. of Yate House paid 10/6 at Penistone. On 22 October 1725 Amor Rich leased property in Broomfield.      Amor Rich was party to a land transaction 20 May, 9 & 10 June 1726 in Daw Walls, Cawthorne. Indentures of lease and release between Thomas Walton of Hollingroyd and Amor Rich of Daughwalls in Cawthorne afsd yeoman. He contributed to the parish poor rate in Cawthorne in 1729 as Amor Rich, for Dobson's Farm. He was a churchwarden in Cawthorne, YKS, from 1735 to 1738. 1735/6 Emor Rich, 1738 Amor Rich, churchwarden at Cawthorne.      Amor Rich was mentioned in a deed dated August 1745 in Cawthorne. Daniel Rowley to Emor Rich, yeoman of Daw Walls. Amor was widowed on 7 December 1746 in Cawthorne on the death of his wife Martha Halliwell.
     Amor Rich made a will dated September 1748 in Cawthorne. In the name of God amen I Aymor Rich of Daw-walls in the chapelry of Cawthorne ... 2 September 1748 ... my body I commit to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named ... all my just debts and funeral expenses to be paid and satisfied out of my personal estate
I give devise and bequeath all my freehold messuages etc... whatsoever ... York to Thomas Ellisson of Higham and John Sanderson of Upper Middop in the parish of Ecclesfield ... yeoman ... mortgage of any part thereof for each one of every of the younger children lawfully begotten or to be begotten on the body of my son Jonas Rich the sum of one hundred pounds a piece when 21 or marry ... for the benefit of each and every of my said son Jonas Riches younger children ...      Amor died on 26 May 1749 in Cawthorne, YKS, aged 69. He was buried on 29 May 1750 in Cawthorne. Aymor Rich, yeoman.

     His will was proved on 31 July 1750 in the Prerogative Court of York. Administration was also proved 30 June 1758 at York. He was mentioned as a deceased tenant in the manorial rolls dated 6 October 1757, in Penistone, Yorkshire, Copy admittance: Court of Godfrey Bosville, Manor of Penistone. It is found by the homage that Amor Rich a customary tenant of this manor is lately dead and he held divers lands and tenements in the manor and that Jonas Rich is his son and heir. Jonas Rich pays 3/4 for a fine and is admitted.
Copy surrender: Court of Godfrey Bosville, Penistone: It is found that Aymer Rich surrendered his copyhold lands to uses as will be declared by his will. He's relationship was mentioned in a deed dated 9 November 1764 in re land at Hollingroyd, Cawthorne, Yorkshire. Between 1. Jonas Rich of Daw Walls in Cawthorne, yeoman (only son and heir at law and also a devisee named in the last will and testament of Aymor Rich, late of the same place, yeoman, deceased); 2 Elizabeth Rich of same place, spinster, one of the daughters of said Jonas Rich; 3 Godfrey Bosville of Gunthwaite, Penistone, Esquire, re tythes of corn, messuages etc. in Cawthorne Lanes or known by the name of Hollingroyd, etc. Daw Hill, Daw Croft ... occupied by the Waltons..

     Amor Rich signed his name as "Emor Rich." He was christened on 17 July 1724 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire. He was the son of John Rich and Ann Ellison.
     Emor was mentioned in the will of his grandfather Francis Ellison 1730, his father in 1741 and uncle Aymor in 1748.
I have assumed the schoolmaster Emor of Stainbrough and Barnsley to be the son of John with reservations: his age doesn't change between marriages and he is 10 years out and subsequently 22 years out for the third marriage but the occupation and address is consistent, however it seems hard to accept a 52 year old as 30.
     In John Rich's will dated 21 August 1741 in Cawthorne, Amor Rich was named as heir; In the name of God amen I John Rich of Jowet in the county of York, yeoman this 21 Aug 1741 do make this my last will and testament in manner & form following (to wit) first my will is that all my just debts the expences of my funeral the charge of the probate of this my will be paid out my personal estate.
Then I give devise and bequeath to my elder son John Rich and heirs forever all my lands and tenements whatsoever subject to the dower which my wife shall be entitled to during the term of her natural life
Also I give unto my daughter the wife of Jonathan Battey and her assigns an annuity twenty shillings a year to be paid every year from the time of my decease during her natural life
Also I give to my daughter Ellin the wife of John Chadwick twenty pounds
To my daughter Sarah the wife of John Mate twenty pounds and to my daughter Elizabeth the wife of Joseph Field ten pounds to be paid by my executor hereafter named with two years next after my decease which ten pounds so given to my daughter Elizabeth Also I give to my said daughter Elizabeth fifty pounds now left to me by the last will of Francis Ellison deceased to be paid by his executors Richard Ellison and Martha Ellison now wife of Francis Liley
Also I give to my younger son Amor Rich eighty pounds to be paid him by my executor when he shall attain the age of 22 years and until that time my will is that he shall have sufficient and ... clothes and pocket money to and provided by and at the proper charge of my said executor over and above I give to my wife all the goods in the little parlor
Lastly all the residue of my personal estate I give to my said son John Rich whom I appoint sole executor of this my will and and hereby revoking all wills and testaments by me heretofore made I declare this to be my last will and testament In witness whereof I the said John Rich the testator have hereunto put my hand and seal the day and year first above expressed. The 1741 poll for Yorkshire has no John Rich at Cawthorne. He was mentioned in a deed dated 2 April 1743 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire. An agreement dated 2 April 1743 between John Rich of Jowett House, Cawthorne, yeoman and Anne Rich of Cawthorne, widow, reciting the will of John Rich, father of the above mentioned John, dated 21 August 1741. By this he gave his son Amor enough pocket money and clothing until he reached 22, to be provided by John, his brother. No specific sum was mentioned, though the parties now agree as follows: John Rich is to provide Anne with 3/10/- at twice yearly intervals until Amor reaches 22. Anne Rich is to provide clothing, etc. for Amor. Amor was a mercer on 17 December 1746, London.
     Amor Rich and John Rich were mentioned in a deed dated 17 December 1746. Know all men by these presents that I Aymor Rich of London, mercer, have remised released and forever quit claimed and by these presents do for me? my heirs Executors and Administrators remise release and for ever quit claim unto John Rich of Jowett House in the chapelry of Cawthorne and county of York, yeoman his heirs Executors and Administrators all and all manner of Action and Actions Cause and Causes of Action and Actions Suits Bills Bonds Writings Obligations Debts Dues Duties Reckonings Accounts Sum and Sums of money Judgements Executions Extents Quarrels Controversies Trespasses Damages and Demands whatsoever both of law and in Equity or otherwise heresoever which against him the said John Rich I ever had now have or which I my heirs Executors and Administrators shall or may have Claim Challenge or Demand for or by reason or means of any Act Matter Cause or Thing? from the beginning of the world to Day of the Date of these presents AND WHEREAS I the said Aymor Rich in or about Michaelmas Term now last past did obtain and recover judgment in his Majesty's Court of Kings Bench at Westminster against the said John Rich for one hundred and sixty two pounds thirteen shillings and four pence Debt and Sixty three Shillings for costs of suit as by the Records thereof remaining in the said Court more at large may Appear of and for which said Judgment and the Debt and Damages thereby recovered I the said Aymor Rich do hereby acknowledge myself to be fully satisfied and contented These are therefore to Desire and Authorize your Edward Oates and Jeremiah Spincke Gentlemen Attorneys of his Majesty's said Court of Kings Bench or either of you to acknowledge Satisfaction upon record in the said Cort, of and for the said Judgment and Debt and Damages thereby recovered And this shall be your Sufficient Warrant and Authority IN WITNESS whereof I the said Aymor Rich have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Seventeenth Day of December in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and forty Six.      Amor Rich was mentioned in the will of Amor Rich dated September 1748.
     Amor Rich may have married before 1764. As he was a widower when he married in 1765, he could have been the Amor who married Gertrude Turnhill at Tickhill in 1740 but he would have only been 16, and as Gertrude remarried as a widow it seems unlikely.
     Amor Rich and Ann Wroe obtained a marriage licence on 8 May 1765 in Yorkshire. Emor Rich of Stainborough, parish of Silkston, schoolmaster aged 30 years and upwards, widower & Ann Wroe, of Sheffield, aged 30 years and upwards, spinster, to be married in the parish church of Sheffield. The bondsman was Robert Revell of Sheffield, innkeeper.
     Amor Rich married secondly Ann Wroe on 9 May 1765 in St Peter's, Sheffield, Yorkshire. Emor Rich, widower, aged 30 of Silkstone & Ann Wroe aged 30 of Sheffield. Amor was a schoolmaster from 1765 to 1777, Stainborough, Silkstone, Yorkshire. An article in the Barnsley Times in 1878 notes: Amor Rich was landlord of the Old Wind Mill [Inn] but this was so long ago that the oldest will not remember it. In addition to his duties as mine host, he officiated as schoolmaster at Stainborough. This latter post he filled for thirty two years, and walked over to Stainborough every school day to teach. The school was very near Stainborough Inn. There were 25 scholars, boys and girls. The Earl of Strafford found each boy a yellow coat and each girl a jacket and petticoat. The boys went once a year to Hermit Hill to be measured for their yellow coats. In a corner of the playground they planted a walnut tree....
     Amor Rich and Mary Unknown (Wilkinson) obtained a marriage licence on 7 February 1772 in Yorkshire. Emor Rich of Stainbrough, parish of Silkston, schoolmaster, aged 30 years and upwards, widower & Mary Wilkinson of Barnsley, aged 25 years and upwards, widow, to be married in the parochial chapel of Barnsley, bondsman was John Walker of Barnsley, carpenter.
     Amor Rich married secondly Mary Unknown (Wilkinson) on 9 February 1772 in Barnsley, Silkstone, Yorkshire.
     Amor died on 20 April 1788 in Barnsley, Silkstone Yorkshire, aged 63. He was buried on 21 April 1788 in St Mary's graveyard, Barnsley. Emor Rich, school-master, died 20th, buried 21st April 1788, aged 67.
     The administration of his estate was granted to Mary Rich on 20 March 1790 in Doncaster. The 27th day of the month aforesaid administration of the goods, etc. of Aymour Rich, late of Barnsley in the diocese of York, deceased intestate (as it is asserted) was granted to Mary Rich widow his relict and having been first sworn etc. before the Rev John Pickles, clerk surrogate an inventory was taken... exhibited above 20th and bond is entered.

     Amor Rich was born say 1565 in Penistone, Yorkshire. He was the son of Edward Rich and Elizabeth Turton.
     Amor Rich married Alice Burdett, daughter of Henry Burdett, on 15 May 1587 in Almondbury, Yorkshire.
     A marriage settlement between Amor Rich and Alice Burdett was made on 24 July 1598 in Penistone.      In Edward Rich's will dated 6 August 1 James I (1603) in Thurlstone, Penistone, Yorkshire,, Amor Rich was named as heir; In the name of god Amen: I Edward Rich of the Bulhouse in the township of Thurleston and County of York being of perfect memory make this my last will and testament this sixth of August the first year of our soveraigne Lord James by the grace of god of England Scotland France & Ireland king defender of the faith etc AD 160-. First I commend my soul into the hands of god trusting assuredly to be saved by the redemption of Christ Jesus & my body to be buried in the parish church of Peniston And for my worldly goods I will they be disposed in maner & form following viz:

     Amor Rich and Richard Rich were mentioned in a deed dated 5 February 1609/10 in Eckland, Penistone. Deed of partition: Aymor Rich of Bulhouse and Richard Rich of [?] divide one messuage in Eclande in the parish of Penistone which they purchased jointly of Robert Brownell of Derby (particulars of lands assigned to each). Amor Rich's use of the property Agreement to levy a fine: Aymor Rich of Bullhouse, George Burdett of Denby Hall and John Wordesworth of Softley agree that Aymor Rich shall levy a fine of the manor and capital messuage called Smallshaw in Thurlestone, messuage called Bullhouse and water corn mill, other messuages called Roid, Milnehouse, with a fulling mill, Catshaw and Langfield and a rentcharge of 13/4 to the use of Aymor Rich.
Exemplification of final concord: [George Burdett and John Wordesworth plaintiffs v. Aymor Rich, deforciant - the manor of Smalshaw, parish of Penistone, 10 messuages, 4 cottages, 1 water corn mill, 1 water fulling mill, 14 gardens, 400 acres of land etc., and 13/4 rent charge in Smalshaw and Roid for 400 pounds.
Fines and recoveries were fictitious actions at law designed to register a title. This is the first mention of Catshaw in the records according to David Hey was registered 9 & 25 October 1611 in Smallshaw, Penistone.
Michaelmas 1614 Amor Rich purchased property in Penistone, YKS, Michaelmas 1614. Emery Rich quer: Wm Hinchcliff & Edward Hinchcliff def. Annual rent of 100 shillings issuing out of 2 messuages & lands in Bilclif, Pawfield house & Langsyde.
     Amor Rich was party to a land transaction on 22 August 1622 in of Bullhouse etc., Penistone, Yorkshire. Settlement: Adamorus Rich of Bullhouse to William Rich his son, capital messuage called Bullhouse in Thurlston Meer, a water corn mill called Bullhouse Mill, a messuage called Catshaw in closes called Doughty Royd, the Brighill, the Upper Sike, the Nether Sike, Moorehouse Ing, Great Tonge, Lt Tonge, the Nooke and other closes belonging to Milnehouse from the east of the River Dun (except the Wheatholm) to the use of Adam for his life and after his death to William and his heirs. On 6 January 1623/24 Amor Rich leased property to Daniel Rich in Smallshaw, Penistone, Yorkshire. Lease: Aymor Rich of Bullhouse, co, York to Daniell Rich his 5th son. 1/3 part of a messuage and lands at Smallshaw in Thurleston meer in the tenure of William and Edward Fyrth and an undivided 1/2 part of another 1/3 part of the same messuage in the tenure of William and Thomas Gleadhill, from the death of Aymor Rich for 100 years at an annual rent of 12d to Aymor Rich's heirs. Amor was Chief Constable of Staincross wapentake in 1624, in Yorkshire, England.
     Amor Rich and Capt William Rich were mentioned in a deed dated 22 February 1626/27 in Penistone, YKS. Revocation of grant: Aymor Riche of Bullhouse revokes the deed of August 20 1622 whereby he granted William, his third son, his capital messuage called Bullhouse in Thurlestone meere with a messuage called Cattshaw and all the closes occupied with a messuage called Milnehouse and known as Daughty roids, the Brigge hill, the Upper Sicke, the Nether Sike, the Moorhouse Inge, the Great Tonge, the Little Tonge, and the Nooke, by payment (as provided in the deed) of 12d to William.
     Note that John Rich, yeoman of Royd had just died.
     Amor Rich and Capt William Rich were mentioned in a deed dated 5 October 1627 in 'Bullhouse', 'Catshaw' & 'Royd', Penistone. Amor & his 3rd son William settled Millhouse & the fulling mill, 2 pts of Smallshaw, Bullhouse & Bullhouse Mill, Catshaw and Royd on Od Ogden of Denby Hall & John Hinchcliffe of Langside; but for the use of Amor during his life and then his wife Alice was to have Millhouse, Millhouse mill & 2 pts of Smallshaw for her life and then to the right heirs of Amor and the other premises to William and his heirs.
     Amor Rich and David Rich were mentioned in a deed dated 20 & 21 June 1628 in re Smallshaw, Penistone, Yorkshire. 20 June - Revocation of lease. Whereas I the said Emor Rich of Bullhouse, did ... 6 January Jas 20 [1622/3]. pays 12d unto Daniell Rich my son 1/3 David and Daniel Rich my son, to make void leases of certain messuages in Smallshaw which had formerly made to them.      21 June - Lease: Aymor Rich of Bullhouse yeoman to Daniell Rich, one of his sons 1/3 part of messuage called Smallshaw in the tenure of Aymor Rich, and the undivided 1/2 of 1/3 of the same messuage in the tenure of Edward ffyrth and John Tinker, for 100 years from the death of Aymor for a yearly rent of 1 shilling to Aymor's heirs.      Amor Rich was mentioned in a deed dated 2 March 1628/29 in re Smallshaw, Penistone. Aymor Rich of Bullhouse to Henry Smyth of Penistone. Half part of 1/3 of the messuage called Smalshawe for 21 years at a rent of £7.
     Amor Rich and Daniel Rich were mentioned in a deed dated 2 March 1628/29 in Penistone, Yorkshire. David and Daniel Rich, younger sons of Aymor Rich of Bulhouse bound to John Marsden of Smalshawe in £10 to keep the covenants of a lease from Aymor Rich (late deceased) to the said John Marsden of 1/3 part of the messuage called Smalshawe from 1st March last for 21 years.
     Emer Rich of Thurlston (with Thomas Eyre) was listed in the Book of Compositions for not taking the order of knighthood at the coronation of King Charles I 1630-32 which was a tax gathering device on those with more than £40 freehold land.

Aymor Rich deforciant re manor of Smallshay, 10 messuages, 4 cottages, 2 mills, 14 gardens, 400 acres of land etc 13/4 rent in Smalshay, Roide, Bolloes, in Thurlston and Thurlston meer for 400 pounds. In 15 days from Holy Trinity 1652.
     Amor Rich made a will dated 18 July 1652 in Penistone, Yorkshire. His will mentions his son Daniel Rich, his grandson Silvanus, his deceased son Edward and Edward's children - Daniel, the children of Amor Rich, Mary wife of Stephen West, Martha widow Greene. John Rich. Hellen Rich. William Rich is a witness. There is no mention of a grandson Edward, let alone as son of Edward, unless he is one of the un-named children of Edward's son Amor but he seems too old for this relationship.
     In the name of God Amen the Eighteenth day of July AD 1652 Aymor Rich of Smallshaw in the parish of Penniston and county of York; being in good health of body and of good and perfect memory, Gods name be praised therefore and desirous to dispose of my worldly Estate now in my health, All former wills by me heretofore made disallowed and revoked, I do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, First I bequeath my Soul to God hoping assuredly to be saved by the death and passion of Jesus Christ, And my body to the Earth from whence it came, to be disposed at the discretion of my executors hereafter named;
     Item I give unto Silvanus Rich my grandchild all my houshold goods and husbandry geer at Bull house if any be,
     Item I give unto my son Daniel Rich all my houshold goods that I have at Smallshaw (if any be ...) and my will is that if the said Silvanus Rich my grandchild his heirs and assigns shall have hold and enioy peacably and quietly all and every part and parcel of the lands and tenements with thappurtenances which I have given unto him the said Silvanus Rich without suit trouble claim or molestation to be made by Daniel Rich my grandchild son of Edward Rich my eldest son deceased, or by any of the children of the said Edward Rich or by any other person or persons by through or under them or any of them, or by the procurement of them or any of them That then the said Silvanus Rich shall pay out of a Bond if he hold and enioy the said Lands quietly without suit claim or trouble the sum of £100 within five years next after my decease, making the said Silvanus & his heirs and assigns such discharge and discharges and release of all titles or any other assurance as by his Councel learned in the Law - shall be thought fit And for want of such discharge the money to be unpaid, the money to be divided in manner as followeth.

     Amor died before 9 August 1652 in Penistone, YKS.

     Amor was registered as Aymor Richard in Thurlstone, Penistone, on the electoral roll dated 1741. In 1741 Aymor Rich voted at Thurlstone for C Turner, esq in the Yorkshire poll.
     On the 10th November 1743 the clothmakers in and about the parish of Penistone agree with Amyer Rich of Bullhouse and George Walker of Hunshelf, not to sell any cloth at Sheffield before 29 September next, under a penalty of £3 a pice of cloth, for the better establishing a meeting at Penistone. On the 8 December 1743 there was a bond recorded between John Wood of Oxspring Hill, ffulling miller, Francis Batty Mill ffulling miller, and Thomas Hobson of Hobson Mill, ffulling miller, bound to Aymor Rich of Bullhouse and George Walker of Hunshelf in £40 not to full or mill any cloth from any clothmaker who has not entered the agreement for establishing a meeting at Penistone..
     In 1749 Mr Rich for Turton Lands was assessed for 7 seats for the repair of the Gentleman's Quire at Penistone church.
     In 1753 Aymor Riche witnessed an account of the boundaries of the Lordship of Thurlstone.

Amor Rich was mentioned as tenant in the manor court rolls dated on 1 November 1764 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire, Copy surrender and admittance: Manor Court of Godfrey Bosville, Penistone it is presented that Jonas Rich of Daw Walls in Cawthorne and Elizabeth his wife surrendered in open court a messuage called Woodend in Penistone and several closes called the Kiln croft, Chappell croft, Pond croft, the New Close and Pingle below it, the Thorn, the Pingle under the Thorn and a parcel of land in an open field in Penistone called Rud broom field, all of the yearly rent of 3/6 in the occupation of Sarah Ardron, to the use of Aymor Rich in consideration of 420 pounds received from him, Aymor Rich paid a fine of 3/6 and was admitted.
     Copy surrender: Manor of Penistone, Court of Godfrey Bosville. It is presented that Aymor Rich of Bullhouse surendered in to the hands of the lord of the manor a messauge called Woodend in Penistone and several closes to those uses which he shall declare in his will.
     Bond: Jonas Rich of Daw Walls in Cawthorne bound to Aymor Rich of Bullhouse in 840 pounds that he was lawfully seized of the messuage and lands [named above] which he surrendered in consideration of 420 pounds.
     There was also a case touching Jonas Rich's title to a copyhold estate at Woodend and an account of money owed to Jonathan West by Aymor Rich for legal expenses over the copyhold estate at Woodend. He added a codicil to his will on 21 September 1767. It voided the annuity to Benjamin Shaw.
     Amor died on 18 November 1769 in Penistone, YKS. He was buried after 18 November 1769 in Bullhouse chapel, Penistone. Here lie the remains of Aymor Rich, Esq. who died Nov: 18th 1769, aged 67. He was in his behaviour the accomplished gentleman, in his worldly affairs, the man of prudence; and in charity to the poor an exemplary Christian. Coat of arms pictured.
     Here lieth the body of Grace daughter and heiress of Wm Bagshaw of Huckloe Esq. and wife of Aymor Rich Esq. She departed this life September 30th 1724 in the 27th year of her age. Also the body of Elkanah, son of Aymor & Grace Rich he died Feb 7th 1724 aged 1 year 4 months. (arms pictured - presumably hers).

Deed to lead the uses of a fine: John Green of Smallshaw and Lydia his wife (sister and heir of Emer Rich of Smallshaw), Thomas Wainwright of Royston, George Walker the younger of Hunshelf and Nicholas Stead of Dongworth agree that the fine to be levied of the messuage in Thurlstone called Smallshaw farm, several messuages in Langsett and a messuage at High Green in Ecclesfield shall be to stated uses.

     He is possibly the cousin Amor in the letter from Elkanah re pew in church 1700

Amor Rich was mentioned as tenant in the manor court rolls dated in 1681 in Bradfield, Yorkshire, Emor Rich was fined for non-attendance (Daniel not mentioned).
     Emor Rich was listed 1685 as overseer of the highways for Waldershelf bierlow. In 1679 Daniel Rich occupied the same position. He was listed on the rent roll of Midhope chapel, on 23 July 1698, for property in Midhope, Ecclesfield. Received of Emor Rich of Middop £1.6.8 half years rent belonging to Middoppe chapel, signed Wm Marshe.
     February 4th 1704/5 Emor Rich of Smallshaw in the parish of Penistone is bound to Nicholas Stead of Morehall gent, John Greaves of Middop gen, Ralph Marden of Middop yeoman & Stephen West of Nether Middop yeoman. For payment of £18/13/4 due to the chapel of Middop during the vacancy between Mr Marsh leaving about Martinmas 1698 & Mr Hoole coming in May 1705. .
     Memo that after many contests & debates Emor Rich did consent to pay the £16 afds without sute and so gave bond to the ffeoffies and had their discharge for the same and four marks more the year 1705. The discharge is dated Feb 3 1705 when the security was given and the moneys were payd in May 1706 and in June 1706 the 4 marks thereof were repayed to Wm Hooll minister there for the year 1705 and £16 afsd is in the hands of the feoffees to be put forth to interest for the use of a minister..

John Hobson's diary records on Friday 29 Dec 1727: Emor Rich, of Midhope, brother of Daniell Rich, of Smallshaw, was lately buried at Peniston.

     Amor Rich was born before 1625 in Penistone, Yorkshire. Parentage assumed and based on the marriage date of 1645 but could be another marriage for the elder Aymor (the grandfather). Could be son of Edward.. He was the son of Edward Rich.

     Earlier references to the Rich family of Carlton include the widow Rich who was not chargeable for the 1664 hearth tax, which suggests that they are not related to the Penistone Rich family. However their use of the name Amor suggests a link. Amor may have had a sister Frances how married Thomas Rollet, on 8 May 1747 at Carlton in Lindrick. Amor Rich was christened on 19 April 1742 in Tickhill, Yorkshire. He was the son of Amor Rich and Gertrude Turnhill.
     Amor Rich married Sarah Unwin on 27 December 1763 in Carlton-in-Lindrick, Nottinghamshire. Amor Rich of this parish, bachelor, a wheelwright and the said Sarah Unwin, of this parish, spinster, were married in this church by banns 27 December 1763. Signed by Amor, Sarah made her mark.

     Amor Rich made a will dated between 28 March 1818 and 1820 in Carlton-in-Lindrick, NTT. In the name of God amen, I Amor Rich of the parish of Carlton in Lindrick in the co of Nottingham, joiner & wheelwright, being infirm in body but sound in mind do declare this to be my last will & testament Imprimus I direct that all my just & lawful debts & funeral expenses shall be paid by my executor
2 I give & bequeath to my dear son George Rich all my personal property of whatever kind ... on this condition that if my dear wife Sarah Rich should choose to continue to live with him at Carlton, he shall maintain & support her during the term of her natural life
3 I give & bequeath to each of my other children not named above the sum of one shilling & I pray God to bless them all ... son George Rich executor, signed 28 March 1818 ... codicil 14 Oct 1820. Amor was a joiner & wheelwright,, in Carlton-in-Lindrick, NTT, in 1818.
     Amor died before 14 September 1821. He was not buried at Carlton..
     His will was proved on 14 September 1821 in the Prerogative Court of York.

     His birth was registered in the quarter ending on 26 April 1874 in Heavygate Rd, Walkley, Sheffield, Yorkshire. Amor Rich was the son of Edwin S Le Tall Rich and Frances Ann Unknown. Amor Rich was christened on 7 June 1874 in St Mary, Walkley, Yorkshire. Amor and William were listed as the children of Edwin S Le Tall Rich in the 1881 census in 270 Heavygate Rd, Nether Hallam, Sheffield. Amor and William were listed as the children of Edwin S Le Tall Rich in the 1891 census in Nether Hallam, Sheffield .

He was listed in a directory dated 1911 as RICH, Amor (Hay & Straw Merchant (Rich A & W.). Residing at 14Y Owlerton:h. 270 Heavygate road, in 1911 at 270 Heavygate Rd, Walkley, Sheffield, Yorkshire.

     Amor Rich was born say 1594 in Yorkshire. He was the son of Amor Rich and Alice Burdett.
     Amor died before 2 March 1628/29 in Penistone, Yorkshire. An illegible Rich was buried 12 November 1628. He was mentioned in a deed dated 2 March 1628/29 in Smallshaw, Penistone, Yorkshire. David and Daniel Rich, younger sons of Aymor Rich of Bulhouse bound to John Marsden of Smalshawe in £10 to keep the covenants of a lease from Aymor Rich (late deceased) to the said John Marsden of 1/3 part of the messuage called Smalshawe from 1st March last for 21 years.

     Amy Rich was christened on 13 August 1873 in St Andrew's, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. She was the daughter of Frank West Rich and Mary Elizabeth Elliott. Amy Rich was listed as Frank West Rich's daughter in the 1881 census. Roland, Amy and Gerald were listed as Frank West Rich's children in the 1901 census in 6 Jesmond Gardens, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.

     Ann Rich was christened on 27 January 1607/8 in Penistone, Yorkshire. Ann, daughter of of Richard Riche the xxiii (or 22nd?) [January] 1607.. She was the daughter of Richard Rich and Frances Priest.

     Ann Rich was christened on 17 December 1813 in Laughton en le Morthen, Yorkshire. Daughter of William by Mary his wife, wheelwright of Laughton. She was the daughter of William Rich and Mary Barlow. Ann Rich and Joseph Rich witnessed Charles Swannack and Harriet Rich's wedding on 28 July 1833 in Laughton en le Morthen, YKS.

     Note that a Hannah Rich, the daughter of Emor Rich was buried 3 December 1721. However Rebecca Hall who is often mentioned in deeds may be a daughter of this union. Ann Rich was christened on 5 November 1720 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Amor Rich and Martha Halliwell.
     Ann Rich married John Hall on 4 December 1746 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire. John Hall of Rodmoor Yate in the parish of Penistone & Anne Rich of this parish by licence from Mr Clarkson, vicar of Silkstone, married by Thos Loxley. They were both aged 23 according to the marriage bond. They left no issue.
     Ann died on 15 June 1747 in Penistone, Yorkshire, aged 26. She was buried on 17 June 1747 in Cawthorne. Section 6 Table tomb with border of lines round edge. Semi-circle at top with acanthus leaves bearing a crown. First word in relief.
