     Isaac Bird was born between 1797 and 1798 in London, England. Being aged 40 at his death in Dec 1838 suggests a 1798 birth. The IGI shows an Isaac son of John & Sarah baptised 29 Mar 1797 at St Luke's Chelsea (the register provided no further information but an Isaac was buried there on 27 Nov 1892), or son of James & Mary bp 30 Jun 1799 at Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire, or son of Joshua & Mary (Milborne) baptised 30 Mar 1799 at Armathwaite, Cumberland.
As his eldest son was named John I lean towards the first family, but his maternal grandfather was also a John (Paul). Isaac was of the parish of Newington, Surrey which is south London when they married. John & Sarah of London also had the following issue : John bp 31 Aug 1794 at St Luke's, Thomas bap 7 Apr 1799 at St Luke's' William bap 28 June 1801 at St Luke's. A John Bird married Sarah Maria Jones 25 June 1792 at St Dunstan, Stepney, another? John Bird married Sarah Styles 23 Sep 1793 at St Leonards Shoreditch.
A John & Sarah (Applegard) married 15 Oct 1780 at St Leonard's Shoreditch. He was christened on 29 March 1797 in St Luke, Chelsea, Middlesex. There is no evidence to support this baptism.
     Isaac Bird married Isabella Tempest Paul, daughter of John Paul and Tempest Margaret Hughes, on 31 March 1822 in St Mary, Newington, Surrey, England.
     Isaac was a merchant, living at Apollo Buildings, Walworth in the parish of Newington in 1823 when their son John Fairburn Isaac was baptised by Rev C J Blenham, curate. Between 1825 & 1830 their children were baptised at St Pancras Old church London, the address in 1825 was Great Queen St. which is in either the parish of St Margaret Westminster or in St Giles in the Fields whose registers have not been deposited.
     Isaac Bird lived at the Apollo Buildings, Walworth, Newington, Surrey, November 1823.
     Isaac Bird lived at Southampton Terrace, Waterloo Town, Middlesex, June 1827. At his daughter Rosalie's baptism, they were living at Southampton Tce which is at the end of Winchester St, Waterloo Town near Bethnal Green. He was described as a merchant. He was listed in a directory dated 1827 at London. In the 1827 Pigots London directory two Isaac Birds were listed - Cabinet maker & appraiser, 4 Bedford Place, Commercial Rd East; Brick & tile maker, Globe Rd, Mile End. Neither seem likely to be "our" Isaac..
     Isaac Bird lived at Little James St, Camden, London, 1831.
     Isaac Bird and Isabella Tempest Paul arrived per "Gulnare" on 21 March 1833 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Isaac Bird, merchant and Isabella his wife, with 2 daughters and 2 sons under 12, departed London 25 October 1832 for Sydney via Hobart as cabin passengers, their son Alfred Paul being born en route 15 Jan 1833 at the Isle de St Paul.
     In 1833 one convict was assigned to Isaac Bird, residence George St, Sydney. Isaac Bird was listed in a directory dated 1833 as Isaac Bird at 2 Liverpool St, Hyde Park, Sydney. He was listed in a directory dated 1834 as Isaac Bird at Kent St, Sydney.
     On 22 August 1834 he signed a call for a land revenue meeting.
     In 1835 he was a signatory to immigrants petition (also John Bird). He was listed in a directory dated 1835 as Isaac Bird at York Street, Sydney. On 24 April of that year & at that address he was assigned a convict silk weaver.
     In 1836 he was a signatory to an immigrant petition. Isaac the Customs Department in Sydney after 5 January 1836. He was on Jan 5 1836 appointed 3rd locker Customs Dept. at a salary of 130 pounds. On May 1 1837 he was appointed 2nd locker salary £150; Sep 1 appointed 3rd locker salary £130. On Oct 11 1838 he was appointed 2nd locker at a salary of £150. All appointments by the Governor. An unknown person was listed as Isaac Bird, grocer in York Street in Sydney in a directory dated in 1836.
     Isaac Bird lived at Sydney, 22 March 1837.
     He was named as Isaac Bird, Customs, in a list of the principal inhabitants of the colony proclaiming the succession of Queen Victoria in the second supplement to the NSW Government gazette of Wednesday Oct 25, 1837.
     On Dec 5 1837 the Australian newspaper reported that he attended a levee.
     Isaac died on 19 December 1838 in Hyde Park, Sydney, New South Wales. He was buried in Devonshire St cemetery, Sydney. His grave was removed to Bunnerong cemetery at La Perouse. He was listed in a directory dated 1839 as Isaac Bird at Liverpool St East, Sydney. He was described as the parent of Edward Henry Bird at his burial. Edward Henry Bird of Liverpool St, died 25 Oct, buried 27 Oct, 10 months. Father, gent. deceased.

The brig "Emma" departed Hobart Town 14 July, carrying cabinpassengers: Miss Bird, Miss Rosalie Bird, Miss A Bird, Miss Mary Rich, Master Harry Rich, arriving at Sydney from Hobart Town.

On the 21st instant, at Holy Trinity Church, by the Rev. J C Grylls, Mr Charles Hamor Rich, to Isabella Tempest, daughter of the late Isaac Bird, Esq.. Isabella was widowed on 25 July 1901 in 'Mirton', Wallis Street, Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia, on the death of her husband Charles Hamor Rich.
     Isabella was registered as Isabella Tempest Rich, domestic duties in Heulby's, Ocean St, Edgecliffe, on the electoral roll dated 1903.
     Isabella died of pneumonia on 11 October 1922 in 'Orielton', Ocean St, Woollahra, New South Wales, aged 97. RICH.-October 11, at her residence, Orielton, Woollahra, Isabella Tempest, relict of the late Rev Canon Charles H Rich, aged 96. By request, no flowers. She was buried on 12 October 1922 in Church of England section of the cemetery, Waverley, Sydney.

He was listed in a directory dated 1867 at Campbell's wharf, Sydney. His private residence was at 49 William St Upper South.
     John Fairburn Isaac Bird made a will dated October 1888 in Sydney. He was described as a gentleman, and appointed the Perpetual Trustee Company his executors, leaving his estate to his brother William Henry Bird of 44 Vine Street, Windsor, Melbourne; the Church of England Property Trust; Ada Matilda Bush of St Leonards, widow; the Prince Alfred Hospital; the Ragged School; the RSPCA and asked to be interred next to Miss Emma Hay.
     John died of broncho-pneumonia on 11 August 1889 in St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, New South Wales, aged 66. He was buried on 12 August 1889 in Rookwood. Buried at Rookwood by Canon Rich (his step-brother & brother-in-law).
     His will was proved on 18 September 1889 in New South Wales.

     Mary died before 1833 in Hessett, Suffolk. A William married Frances Manfield in 1833 but both were single! I have not yet found a William & mary in the 1841 or 51 census. She was buried on 25 May 1865? In Hessett.
