Note Mrs Ingram has one part with a covenant added from Mr Johnson & Mr Steer for payment.

Mortage of £9000 held by Sarah Ingram of Wakefield to be repaid by each moiety equally.

     In Sarah Smith's will dated 26 September 1772, Catherine Popplewell was named as heir. ...her nieces Miss Mary Serjeantson, Miss Sarah Smith, Mary Torr, wife of Nicholas Torr of Pontefract, Alice Trant of Himsworth, Sarah Brown of Sheffield, Catharine wife of Allen Johnson of Wakefield, Elizabeth wife of Robert Steer of Sandtoft, co. Lincoln, Mary & Elizabeth Denton of Wakefield and Elizabeth Halliday; ... and also I give to my niece Miss Ann Denton the sume thirty pounds upon trust that she shall and do at her own costs and charges, as soon as conveniently may be after the end of a calendar months next after my decease, lay out the same in the purchase of freehold lands, tenements, hereditaments, in the W Riding of Yorkshire and convey and settle ... unto the schoolmaster for the time being of the school lately built by my late brother John Smith, Esquire, deceased, situate... in Greenside for ever ... The will also names her nephews John Sylvester Smith of Newland, William Serjeantson of Wakefield, esq. and William Smith of Methley; her nieces Miss Mary Serjeantson, Miss Sarah Smith, Mary Torr, wife of Nicholas Torr of Pontefract, Alice Trant of Himsworth, Sarah Brown of Sheffield, Catharine wife of Allen Johnson of Wakefield, Elizabeth wife of Robert Steer of Sandtoft, co. Lincoln, Mary & Elizabeth Denton of Wakefield and Elizabeth Halliday. To the charity school of Wakefield 20 pounds, to the York County Hospital 20 pounds, etc. etc.
     Catherine died on 31 January 1786 in of Temple Belwood, Belton, Lincolnshire, aged 68. In Belton church: In memory of Catherine, late wife of Allan Johnson, esq of Temple Belwood, in this parish, who was the elder of the two daughters and co-heiress of Rich. Popplewell, esq. late of the same place, by Elizabeth his wife, whose maiden name was Smith, of Newland Park, near Wakefield in Yorkshire, which said Catherine died 31st Jan 1786, aged 66 years, and lies interred in this chancel. She was buried on 6 February 1786 in the chancel, Belton.

     This is probably the will that Dr Joy Lloyd writes about in her thesis as having an exceptionally large number of cattle (41).
     Christian Popplewell married John Popplewell, son of John Popplewell and Thomasin Popplewell, on 14 October 1681 in Belton, LIN. The marriage bond describes them as Johannes Popplewell de Belton, 23, yeoman & Christian Popplewell of Belton, spinster, 20, to be married at Belton or Epworth. He signed Jo: Poplewell.
     Undated Schedule of lands in Beltoft and Belton belonging formerly to Thomas Poplewell allotted to John Poplewell and Christian his wife, then being one of Thomas' daughters and co-heiress
Property: 1) Closes called Hallgarth, Great & Little Wrenhole, Hobinglack, Hubbert cawsey, Chantrey close, Newintake.
2) Selions on Micker Hill, Flash wood, Hanging furlong, Wheat close. Lincs Archives date it about 1660-1670, but this seems unlikely as Christian & John married in 1681.
     Christian Popplewell and John Popplewell were mentioned in a deed dated 25 January 1695/96 in re Belton, Beltoft & Woodhouse, Belton. Indenture between (1) John Poplewell of Belton, gent. & Christian his wife, (2) James Esterby of Glanford Briggs, Innholder & Isabell his wife, (3) Robert Popplewell of Belton, yeoman ... the levying of a fine re one messuage in Belton, Beltoft & Woodhouse.
     Christian died before 14 August 1717 in Belton, Lincolnshire. She was buried on 14 August 1717 in Belton.
