Benjamin Rawson

     Benjamin died at Bradford, Yorkshire.
     He was of Bradford, Nidd and Darley. He inherited Bradford estates from his cousin Jeremiah Rawson who married 1734, Aug. 13. Mr. Jeremiah Rawson* of Bradford, in the diocese of York, and Frances Sterne, of the par. of All Saints in North-street, York. (Lic.)
* Jeremiah Rawson, attorney, son and heir of William Rawson, esq., of Bradford, by his second wife Grace, daughter and coheiress of Jeremiah Rossendale, esq. He died in 1767, without surviving issue, and was succeeded by his cousin Benjamin Rawson (son of Brook Rawson, of Manchester, gent., and grandson of the abovementioned William), whose son and heir, Benjamin Rawson, esq., of Bolton-in-le-Moors, co. Lanc., and Nidd Hall, co. York, purchased, in 1795, the manor of Bradford, which is yet held by his daughter, Miss Rawson, of Nidd Hall. -Frances, daughter of Richard Sterne, esq., of Elvington, and great-granddaughter of archbishop Sterne. She resided in the Manor House at Bradford, where she died 26 Oct., 1801, aged 86. " Her character will long be contemplated with respect and gratitude. She was a lineal descendant of archbishop Sterne, and cousin to the celebrated Tristram Shandy; had been 33 years a wife, and near 34 years a widow, and was a constant reader of this magazine from its commencement, of which she has left a complete set." (Gent. Mag., 1801, p. 1059.). He was born circa 1725? At Yorkshire. He was the son of Brooke Rawson & Susanna Bower.
     Benjamin Rawson married Ann Steer, daughter of Rev Charles Steer and Mary Bacon, on 13 May 1754 at the Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire.

     He was of Bradford, Nidd & Darley. Benjamin Rawson was born on 2 April 1758? At the Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire. He was the son of Benjamin Rawson and Ann Steer.
     Benjamin Rawson married Elizabeth Plumbe on 25 August 1785 at St Peter, Bolton le Moors, Lancashire. Benjamin Rawson, Esq. of Nidd Hall, Yks, and of Darley Hall, Lancs. b. in 1758, married in 1785 Elizabeth, only surving child of Thomas Plumbe, esq. second son of the Rev Thomas Plumbe, rector of Aughton and Moberley, and canon of Windsor, by whom (who died in Nov. 1807) he had issue. Mr Rawson, who inherited the family estates at Bradford, having considerably augmented his fortune by trade, purchased Nidd, his present residnece, and other property in Yorkshire.
     Benjamin died in 1844.

     Elizabeth Rawson was christened on 3 June 1795 at St Peter, Bolton le Moors, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Benjamin Rawson and Elizabeth Plumbe.
     Elizabeth died November 29th. Died at Nidd Hall, in her 96th year, Miss Rawson, the youngest and last surviving daughter of Mr. Benjamin Rawson, of Nidd Hall whose mother was the only child of the late Mr. Thomas Plumbe, of Bolton, near York, and who succeeded to the estates in the year 1844. The deceased lady was born in 1795. Her father died in 1844 leaving two daughters, one of whom died in 1863, and the surviving daughter quietly passed away, after a life of uninterrupted charity and benevolence during the closing hours of Saturday evening. The deceased during her lifetime was lavishly charitable, not only to those resident in the immediate vicinity of her demesne, but to institutions throughout the country. Miss Rawson owned a vast amount of landed property in various parts of the county. The heir to the estate is the Hon. Henry Edmund Butler, of Eagle Hall, Pateley Bridge. son of Viscount Mountgarrett. Mr Butler married the daughter of Mr J St John C Charlton, of Apley Castle, Salop, and in 1885 contested the borough of Windsor as the Liberal candidate on 29 November 1890? At Nidd Hall, Harrogate, Yorkshire, aged 95.

     Thomas Rawstorn was born say 1710 at Lexden, Essex. He was Lord of the Manor of Lexden within the Liberties of Colchester, Essex. He was the younger son of Samuel Rawstorn (who purchased the Lordship of Lexden in 1701) by his wife Sarah, daughter of Thomas Papillon of Acrise, Kent, succeeded his elder brother Jerom Rawstorn. Thomas married secondly Sophia, seventh daughter of Edward Lisle of Crux Easton, Hampshire, by whom he had no issue. [Morant's Essex, p.132]. She was born on 4 Novembr 1711, and died in 1780, being buried in Lexden [Berry's Hampshire Pedigrees]. Thomas was issued a marriage license on 7 June 1734 at London.
     Thomas Rawstorn married Ann Fawler, daughter of John Fawler and Mary Unknown (Fawler), on 11 June 1734 at St Olave. Hart St, London.
