John Skottowe Parker

John Skottowe Parker was born circa 1807 at Cork, Ireland. He was the son of Richard Neville Parker & Lucy nee Skottowe.
His father was Mayor of Cork in 1828. Richard Neville Parker died in 1832, leaving a daughter Sarah H Skottowe Parker who married Herbert Gillman who died in 1877; Richard Neville Parker born 1799 who married in 1824 Hannah Maria Newson, daughter of John George Newsom. Their son John George N Parker died in 1869 and another son Richard Neville Parker married Henrietta French daughter of Thomas G French who died 1866. His mother, Lucy was the granddaughter of Thomas Skottowe of Ayton Hall, Gt. Ayton Yorkshire, who paid for the education of Capt James Cook. Her father was John Skottowe, Governor of St Helena 1764-82.

Carlow and left 2 sons, Coulson, murdered in 1798, and Charles who m. a niece of Jemmett Browne, Archbishop of Tuam. A few years after John Skottowe's death, his nephew Thomas Skottowe (who had been the last colonial Secretary to the Council of South Carolina and who had married Mary daughter of Edmund Bellinger, 3rd Landgrave of South Carolina) also settled in Waterford. His death notice states that William Skottowe Parker, was the second son of the late Richard Neville Parker, of Cork, Ireland.

Another presumed family link was William Parker born at Cork in 1778 who led a party of Irish immigrants to the Cape of Good Hope in 1820. He was the son of Michael Parker and Ann D'Esterre, and grandson of the Mayor of Cork City, Hugh Harding Parker and his wife Catherine Ann Neville... He left Ireland to supervise family interests in the West Indies and resided in Barbados in 1811. He returned to Ireland in 1822 and settled at Passage West, dying there on 18 October 1837. One of his sons Norcott D'Esterre Parker born 1819 was a solicitor in Cork City. He later sailed his own vessel from Hong Kong to the California gold diggings and was never heard of afterwards. In 1842 he was signatory as member of Association for obtaining permission to import coolies from India ... to NSW.

John died of hepatitis on 10 July 1866 at Kingston, New South Wales. He was Coroner for the City and District of Sydney at his death in Kingston in the parish of Petersham. The informant was his nephew George H Hawkes, First Officer on board the Mail Steamer, Madras. He was buried on 12 July 1866 at St Peter's, Cook's River, Petersham, New South Wales.
