There was a 35 year old Donald Bain. agricultural labourer, with his wife Margaret aged 30 and their children in the 1841 census at Portlich. An inventory of his estate was dated on 15 January 1829 Donald Bain, merchant, Portleich, Kilmuir Easter, Inventory 15 January 1829. An inventory of his estate was dated on 29 October 1838 The inventory & settlement dated 29 Oct 1838 of Donald Bain, late porter in Leith afterwards residing in Invergordon, who died on 3 August 1837 does not seem to be our man. His wife was Janet Munro and he had a grandson Donald Bain residing with them, the son of the late Donald Bain, surgeon in Kingston, Jamaica. He had another grandson: John Bain Dingwall, son of Hector Dingwall residing at North Leith and Margaret his deceased eldest daughter. His other daughters was Catherine the wife of James McKenzie at present in Glasgow..

     Isobell Bain was born before 17 January 1777 in Delny, Kilmuir Easter, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland. The naming pattern of her children suits the Kilmuir Easter christening and parentage however, her grandson's obituary states that she was the daughter of 'Old' Bain of the Brewery and his wife Elizabeth Fraser, and sister of William and David of Davidstoun. However I can find no evidence of a suitable birth. She was christened on 17 January 1777 in Kilmuir Easter. She was the daughter of Donald Bain and Margaret Ross.
     Isobell Bain married William MacKenzie, son of William MacKenzie and Christian MacKenzie, on 12 March 1802 in Kilmuir Easter, Ross & Cromarty. His grandson's obituary stated Mr Mackenzie's paternal grandfather, hailed from Delny, and married in Cromarty a sister of David and William Bain, also from Delny, who farmed Townlands, Cromarty, and were tenants of the Brewery and owned property in Trinity, Edinburgh, and Leith.
     Isobell died circa 15 January 1844 in Cromarty, Ross & Cromarty. She was buried on 15 January 1844 in the Gaelic churchyard, Cromarty.
     At the turn of the century, W M & D A Mackenzie were enquiring into the estate of William Bain whose brother David had predeceased him.
