They had six children, 3 sons & 3 daughters the eldest being aged 8 at his death.

There is an account of his life and work by his wife in "The Church of England magazine" available via Googlebooks along with a copy of an article on him in the Evening mail, March 1833/8. He was buried on 6 March 1838 at Athlone. Sacred to the memory of the Rev John Gustavus Handcock late Rector of the Parish of Annaduff Co. Leitrim. A faithful and devoted servant of the Lord Jesus Christ who having both by his life and doctrine adorned the Gospel of God his Saviour, was removed by death from his affectionate family and flock, in the prime of his days, and in the midst of his usefulness, March 2nd 1838 AEtat 39. This tablet was erected by his brothers in token of their love and affection for him.
His will was proved on 24 March 1838. His goods were valued at £1384, the executor being his wife Frances leaving all to his wife and children.

Richard died on 18 April 1840 at Dublin aged 72. He died after a long and agonizing illness. He was buried on 21 April 1840.
