     John Aske was born in 1486? In Aughton, Yorkshire. He was the son of Sir Robert (son of John) & Elizabeth, daughter of John Lord Clifford. He was the son of Sir Robert Aske and Elizabeth Clifford.
     John Aske married Eleanor Ryther, daughter of Sir Ralph Ryther and Catherine Constable, before 1509. She was called Ellin Aske in her father's will dated 20 March 1520. He was usually described as Esquire.
     John, was later granted the site of the suppressed priory at Ellerton in 1542.
     The eldest son, John Aske, did well out of the Reformation - DDBH/3/32 comprises letters patent of 1542 granting him the site of Ellerton Priory with fishing rights in the Derwent, as well as a mansion house in York that had belonged to Bolton Priory, Thykhede Priory and manor and also Deighton manor and mansion house. He had nine children.
     John Aske made a will dated 28 March 1544. Flower's account of the family of Aske of Aughton in 1567 shows Sir Robert Aske (son of Sir John), married to Elizabeth Clifford (daughter of John, Lord Clifford) as parents of three sons and four daughters. The third son, Robert, was the one involved in the Pigrimage of Grace. Sir Robert's will was proved 16 March 1541/2.
His eldest son and heir was John Aske, who married Ellenor Ryder. His will was proved 28 March 1544. Their son and heir was named Robert, who married Elisabeth, daughter of Nynyon/Ninian Markenfield. Their second son, but eventual heir, was named Robert, who married Elsabeth Dawney. In 1567 they had one son and four daughters, John, Mary, Jane, Elsabeth and Elenor. Sir Robert Aske also had lands in Hampshire and Sussex.
     John died after 28 March 1544.

     Trinity Term 1598 (40 Eliz) John Aske, esq, was plaintiff against Christopher Asshe, esq., and John Conyers esq. re manors of Aughton, Rither, Osindike and Stockbridgefielde, and 60 messuages with lands there. p.108 - Michaelmas term 1598 (40 & 41 Eliz) John Robynson jun. and Henry Robynson were plaintiffs against John Aske, esq. re the manors of Ryther als. Ryder, Osyndike, Stockbridge als Stockbridgefeilde, and 50 messuages with lands and the frank pledge there, free fishing in the Wharfe, and the advowdson of Ryther church..

     John Aske was born circa 1565 He was son and heir of Robert Aske and was aged 25 years and upwards as of Jul 1591 in Aughton, Yorkshire. He was the son of Robert Aske and Elizabeth Dawney.
     John Aske married Christian Fairfax, daughter of Sir Thomas Fairfax (of Denton) and Dorothy Gale (Rokeby). Their eldest son, John Aske (d.1655) had no male heirs who survived him.

His son, Thomas Aske (d.1826), was followed by another male heir called Thomas Aske (1782-1834) and he and his wife, Charlotte Brown, had two daughters and a son: Aske's eldest daughter, Margaret (1813-1833), married James Coultous.

     Richard Aske was born in 1519. He was the son of John Aske and Eleanor Ryther.

Richard Aske, of Owsthorpe, 1584 (5th son of John Aske of Aughton by Ellinor Ryther, daughter and one of the heiresses of Sir Ralph Ryther), married Elizabeth Hall, of Burringham, Lincs. Children: 1. Robert Ake, eldest son, aged 29, 1584 [called Ralph in MSS 18011] 2. Peter 3. Richard Julian Elizabeth, 2nd wife of Bryan Ellis of Barnsley and had issue Matthew Ellys.
     Richard died before 31 March 1590. He married Elilzabeth Hall and left 3 sons and 2 daughters. His will was dated 10 Jan 1590. He was buried on 31 March 1590.

     Richard Aske Lord of Aughton was the son of John Aske and Elizabeth Gascoigne.
     Richard Aske Lord of Aughton married Margaret Owtred. She was the daughter of Sir Robert Owtred, Knight.

     Robert Aske lived at Lewisham, Kent. He was born in 1509? In Yorkshire. Robert was son & heir to John of Aughton. Other sources suggest he was the illegitimate son of Robert. He was the son of John Aske and Eleanor Ryther.
     Robert Aske married Eleanor or Elizabeth Markenfield. She was the daughter of Sir Ninyon Markenfeld. They had three daughters, 2 married (one to a Thomas Jones) and Elizabeth unmarried in 1604.
     Robert Aske married secondly Ann Sutton. Paul Reed wrote: I did not attempt to trace out the earlier marriage or children of this Robert Aske, but it is clear from the following that this St. Vedfast Robert Aske is the testator.

     Robert Aske made a will dated 14 September 1604. Paul Reed on Gen-Medieval wrote: Re: Aske of Aughton/Aske of Lewisham - I did not see any entry for an Aske in the _Pension Book of Gray's Inn_ and should remark that it was not unusual for others who obtained wealth or prominence to obtain rooms at one of the Inns of Court as a residence even though they themselves did not study law.

There is an attached sentence concerning Robert Aske late of Levisham [sic], Kent between Elizabeth Aske, the relict and executrix on the one part and James Aske and Thomas Aske, sons of the said deceased on the other part, the decree dated 15 Feb. 1604.

     Sir Robert Aske was born before 1465 in Yorkshire. He was the son of Sir John Aske & Elizabeth Bygod (the eldest daughter of Sir Ralph, overlord of the Aughton manor).      Robert Aske Pilgrimage leader was born in 1500 in Yorkshire. He was the son of Sir Robert Aske and Elizabeth Clifford.
     He was a lawyer, and a Fellow at Gray's Inn. A devout man, he objected to Henry's religious reforms, particularly the Dissolution of the Monasteries. When rebellion broke out in York against Henry VIII, Aske was returning to Yorkshire from London. Not initially involved in the rebellion, he took up the cause of the locals and headed the Pilgrimage of Grace. By October 10 he had come to be regarded as their "chief captain". Most of Yorkshire, and parts of Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland and Westmorland were in revolt. On October 13, 1536, Aske treated with the royal delegates, including the Duke of Norfolk, and received an assurance of an audience and safe passage to the king. He travelled to London, met Henry VIII, and received promises of redress and safe passage. As he began his journey back north, fighting broke out again. This renewed fighting allowed Henry to change his mind, and he had Robert Aske seized and brought to the Tower of London. He was convicted of high treason in Westminster and was taken back to York, where he was hanged in chains in July 1537 on a special scaffold erected outside Clifford's Tower.
     Robert died on 12 July 1537. He left no issue.

     Caroline died before 31 October 1887 in Flempton cum Hengrave, Suffolk. She was buried on 31 October 1887 in St Catherine, Flempton cum Hengrave.

     Cicely Atherton married Anthony Maude before 1571.
In 1571/72 Cicely Atherton purchased property in Dunkeswick, Yorkshire, in 1571/72. Hilary Term, Fine between Anthony Mawde, gent and Cicely his wife, plaintiffs, and James Ryther esq., deforciant, of a messuage, a toft, a barn, a garden, an orchard, 20 acres of land, 40 acres of meadow, 100 acres of pasture, 10 acres of wood, 30 acres of furze and heath, 20 acres of turbary, 20 acres of moss, and common pasture for all animals, in Dunkeswycke, which Dame Anne Browne, widow, holds for life: to hold after the death of Anne, to Anthony & Cicely and the heirs of Cicely. She and Robert Ryther, John Ryther, Edith Ryther, Mary Ryther, Cotton Tempest, Hellen or Ellen Ryther and Francis Maude were beneficiaries in William Atherton's will proved 19 January 1577/78.

     Dorothy Atherton was born circa 1540? In Yorkshire. She was the daughter of William Atherton.
     Dorothy Atherton married Richard Tempest.
Between 1571 and 1583 Dorothy Atherton sold property in Harewood.
     Dorothy died after 1578. She was mentioned in her father's will..

     Elizabeth Atherton was christened on 24 December 1543 in Bardsey, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of William Atherton.
     Elizabeth Atherton married James Ryther, son of William Ryther and Mary Hales, before 1570. He had 6 children by 1577. There are no marriage records extant at Bardsey 1568-1577.
     Elizabeth died on 18 December 1634? Aged 90. An Elizabeth Ryther is buried 18 Dec 1634 at Raskelf, Yorkshire.
