William Dunbar

     William, is described as son of Patrick, Earl of Dunbar, in various charters to the Abbey of Kelso. He married Christiana, daughter of Walter Corbet of Mackerston, and had issue three sons, Nicholas, Patrick, and Walter Corbet. She died in 1241, and William in 1253. Nicholas Corbet had the lands of Makerstoun, and he had also Langton and other lands in Northumberland. He died apparently without issue, as his brother Patrick, who had Fogo, is described as his heir. The seal of this William is engraved, but does not show heraldic bearings..
     William Dunbar married Christiana Corbet. William Dunbar was born before 1200. He was the son of Patrick Dunbar 4th Earl of Dunbar and Ada, of Scotland.
     William died in 1253.

      William Dunbar was also known as William Dunbar (of Hempriggs) in records. He was born illegitimate before 1555 in Scotland. William Dunbar (de Hempriggis) fil. nat. Alex Dunbar of Conze. Burke describes him as the youngest son. He was the son of Alexander Dunbar and Hon Elizabeth Forbes.
     He was the first of Hempriggs, had a charter of that estate, 30 March 1576.
     William Dunbar married Margaret Anderson.
     William died on 25 November 1624.
     He was of Struthers & afterwards of Hempriggs (of one-third of which he got a charter in 1574), is called portioner of Hempriggs in his father's will, which is dated 25th February 1577. He married Catherine, the daughter (and heiress probably) of John Anderson of Struthers and Janet Gibson, his spouse. He had four sons and a daughter.

William Dunbar 1st Bart of Northfield was served heir to John Dunbar of Hempriggs on 3 April 1666. Willielmus Dumbar de Hemprigs served heir to his father Joannis Dumbar de Hemprigs on 3 April 1666.      
William Dunbar 1st Bart of Northfield was Member of Parliament in 1678 for Caithness, Scotland.
     William Dunbar 1st Bart of Northfield married Margaret Sinclair. William Dunbar 1st Bart of Northfield bore arms: In 1681 the arms of William Dunbar of Hemprigs were matriculated in the Lyon Register as "William Dunbar of Hemprigs descended of the familie of Kilboyack who was the eldest cadet of the house of Westfield, Sheriff of Murray".
