William is also listed as owning 2 acres 2 rods 19 perches with gross estimated rental 80/13/- in the 1873 Return of Owners of Land. He is not identifiable in the 1881 census of Sussex.

If so, he had a sister Elizabeth bapt 28 Feb1696/7; William 3 Mar 1698, Charity 1 Jan 1702, Mary baptised 31 May 1704 at Shermanbury,who died 21 Aug 1704,& brother George bap 28 Aug 1709.
That John was probably born 02 July 1676 to William & Susan Godsmarke (Gosmarke - IGI) at Shermanbury who married there 27 June 1672. They also had William born 9 Feb 1672 Shermanbury, who died 24 Feb 1672, then William 22 March 1673 and possibly Henry 12 Jan 1679. However a John was also christened 11 March 1657 at Shermanbury - the son of Thomas. There are several refernces to Denmans of Shermanbury in the Sussex Poor Law records. He was the son of John Denman and Bridget Morley.

     In Robert Osborn Dempster's will dated 6 May 1837 in Broadwater, Mary Ann Denman was named as executrix of the estate; Robert Dempster of Offington in the parish of Broadwater in the county of Sussex yeoman I give all my estate and effects whatsoever unto my dear wife and I appoint my said wife and Arnold Denman of Willingdon in the county of Sussex yeoman and George Dempster of Brighthelmstone in the county of Sussex executrix and executors. Signed Robert Dempster. Witnesses: Richard Dempster & Thos. Turner. Mary was widowed on 20 June 1837 on the death of her husband Robert Osborn Dempster.

     A marriage settlement between Elizabeth Denne and Lt Robert Popplewell Steer was made between 4 February 1806 and May 1809 in Churchill, Kerry, Ireland. 4 Feb 1806: Articles of agreement prior to marriage settlement of Robert Popplewell Steer esq. now of Churchill co. Kerry and Elizabeth, eldest daughter of the Rev. Maynard Denny of Churchill.
18 & 19 May 1809: Mr & Mrs Steer's settlement (lands in Belton parish). Endorsed: Appointment of new trustees 1826.
     Elizabeth Denne married Lt Robert Popplewell Steer, son of Richard Ryther Popplewell Steer and Frances Steer, after February 1806. Sarah Stanser, Lt Robert Popplewell Steer, Elizabeth Denne, Mary Robinson, Maria Stanser and Rev Isaac Robinson was a subscriber to the volume "Old John's tale" published in 1819 in Doncaster, Yorkshire. She wrote "Old John's tale, or half an hours amusement to the not too difficult to please, an irregular poem by a lady, cheerfully dedicated to the good- natured" London: printed by S McDonell, Lombard St for the author and published by B Bisby & M Simpson, Doncaster, 1819. A copy in the Mitchell Library, NSW [from the collection of David Scott Mitchell] has the inscription: Mary Elizabeth Bingle - from the author 1859. Some of the presumed relatives were subscribers to the volume: Dr Best, Capt Best and Miss Best, all of Bulwell; Mr, Mrs & Miss Robinson of Winthorpe House, Dr Robinson, Mrs Robinson & Mr R Robinson of Doncaster, Mrs Robinson of Stoke Golding, Miss Robinson of Blencogo, Mr F Robinson of Nottingham & Mrs S Robinson of Bulwell; Mr & Mrs Steer of Doncaster and Miss Stanser of Doncaster.
     In the 1851 census Elizabeth Denne was living in the household of her son-in-law Rev John Denne Hilton in 10 Croft, Hastings St Clement, Sussex.
