There was also a John Colbert leasing a house and garden from Patrick Smithwick in Dungourney townland.
John died after 1896. The Colberts of Glenaphuca were better known as "Colberts of the Glen". It was on their farm in Nov 1896 that the Rev. Edmond Barry PP Rathcormac first
observed that a pillar supporting an out-house bore Ogham markings, an
astuteness of vision that gave the so-called Rathcanning Ogham to archaeology. John Colbert, aged 75, was the then occupier of the Glenaphuca farm (which incidently is no longer in Colbert hands). This John is very likely the same who erected the monumental inscription to Patrick Colbert..
