I John Cocksedge of Bardwell, bricklayer ... son John Cocksedge, daughter Martha the wife of Joseph Talbot, my late wife's niece Martha Johnson now living with me ... Samuel Johnson of Bradfield St George. He added a codicil to his will on 4 November 1827. He appoints his son in law Joseph Talbot to be executor in place of Samuel Johnson.

First I above all things commend my immortal soul into the hands of almighty God my creator in assured hope of salvation … my body I yield unto the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named and as touching that small estate which God in mercy hath lent me in this world I dispose thereof as followeth
First I give devise & bequeath unto
Ann Cocksedge my beloved wife all that my tenement in Bardwell afsd wherein I now live with appurtenances to hold to her the said Ann my wife & her assigns for & during the term of her natural life And from and after the decease of my said wife I will & desire that the afsd house with appurtenances shall be forthwith sold & that the money arising by from the sale thereof after the payment of my just debts & expences relating to the decent interment of my wife & wife’s other necessary charges shall be disposed of in manner following, that is to say, that five pounds thereof shall be paid unto my daughter Mary Manning within three months after such sale & other five pounds thereof shall be paid unto my daughter Sarah Debenham within three months after such sale and that the remainder of the money arising from the sale of the afsd house with appurtenances shall be paid unto .. shall be divided share and share alike between my two daughters Elizabeth Onge & Margaret Cocksedge do also give devise & bequeath all my goods chattels ready money wearing apparel or whatsoever I may die possessed of wheresoever unto my said wife Ann Cocksedge provided that whatsoever may remain thereof after the decease of my said wife shall be divided equally between my two daughters Elizabeth Onge and Margaret Cocksedge And I do nominate & make Ann Cocksedge my beloved wife sole executrix of this my last will and testament I do further hope & intreat that in case there should be nothing remaining wherewith to defray funeral expences at the time of my decease or the decease of my wife that my two daughters Elizabeth Onge & Margaret Cocksedge would take upon them to see us decently interred and I hereby declare the above to be my last will and testament
