     Among the Company papers is an Apprenticeship indenture - dated 21 May 1803 - James Cocksedge, son of James Cocksedge of Rickinghall, baker apprenticed to William Housden, of Lambeth, Surrey, carpenter. This may be his father. James Samuel Cocksedge was born circa 1818 in Suffolk.
     James Samuel Cocksedge married Mary Ann Unknown between January 1848 and March 1848 in Stow RD, Suffolk.
     Agreement dated 26 April 1870 between James Samuel Cocksedge, of Stowmarket, ironfounder, James Woods of Stowmarket, gent, Edmund Freeman Woods of Stowmarket, ironfounder, John W C C Morrison and George G Nicol of London, trustees and the North Britiah and Mercantile Insurance Company.
     He was the founder of Cocksedge & Co. Ltd and his son JWA Cocksedge became a partner.
     James died on 13 June 1887 in Ipswich, Suffolk.
     The administration of his estate was granted to James Woods Arthur Cocksedge on 9 July 1887 in Ipwich. Administration (with will) of James Samuel Cocksedge, of Ipswich, ironfounder was granted to James Woods Arthur Cocksedge, of 13 St Peters St, Ipswich, ironfounder, son and one of the residuary legatees.

     James Woods Arthur Cocksedge was christened on 1 January 1857 in Stowmarket, Suffolk. He was the son of James Samuel Cocksedge and Mary Ann Unknown.
James Woods Arthur Cocksedge was apprenticed on 12 February 1872. James Woods Arthur Cocksedge, son of James Samuel Cocksedge of Stowmarket, ironfounder apprenticed to Edmund Freeman Woods, James Samuel Cocksedge and Edward Warner of the ironworks, Stowmarket trading under the firm of Woods, Cocksedge and Warner.
     The business in Grey Friars Road consisted of a small foundry, a pattern shop and an engineering shop and it employed 12 men. A few years later Mr Cocksedge took his son, Mr JWA Cocksedge into partnership. Mr JWA Cocksedge has for some years previously been gaining experience with two large engineering firms in London. Business increased and when the original premises became too small they were supplemented by the acquisition of an additional building situated on the other side of the road. Administration of the estate of James Samuel Cocksedge was granted to James Woods Arthur Cocksedge, on 9 July 1887 in Ipwich Administration (with will) of James Samuel Cocksedge, of Ipswich, ironfounder was granted to James Woods Arthur Cocksedge, of 13 St Peters St, Ipswich, ironfounder, son and one of the residuary legatees.
     James died on 20 May 1928 in Ipwich, Suffolk, aged 71.

     He was possibly married previously to Mary, note that two wives of John Cocksedges were buried at Rougham in 1662, one of Monk Bradfield 3 Nov (Hannah's husband) and the other "in the Lane" Jan 12 1662/3. John Cocksedge was born say 1640 in Rougham, Suffolk. This link is only assumed. He was the son of John Cocksedge.
     John Cocksedge married Margery Crofts, daughter of Edward Crofts and Margaret Unknown (Crofts), on 4 October 1666 in Rushbrooke, Suffolk. John Cocksedge of Rougham & Margery Crofts of Rushbrooke, both single. Banns.
     In the Rougham glebe terrier dated c. 1672 John is mentioned as having land to the north of the second part of the glebe.
     John Cocksedge was mentioned in the 1674 hearth tax list in Rougham, SFK, with 2 or 4 hearths. There were 2 John Cocksedges at Rougham: Jo. Cockseage, Jo. Howe and Fr. Sturgin with 3 hearths, and Jo. Cocksedge & Jo. Kinge with 4 hearths.
Note that there are two other Johns at Culford and Wetherden.
     John Cocksedge made a will dated 20 December 1693 in Rougham, SFK. His will mentions his wife Margery and his six children John, Thomas, Mary, Robert, Peter & Joseph and his cousin William Cocksedge of Rougham.
In the name of God amen I John Cocksedge of Rougham Sfk yeoman being unsound in body by reason of old age but otherwise in good health and of perfect mind and memory blessed be God do make and ordain this my last will and testament this twentieth day of December in the fifth year of the reign of our Sov. lord and Lady King William and Queen Mary over England Scotland France & Ireland Defenders of the Faith ... and in the year of our Lord 1693. First I commend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God my maker in the moderation of Jesus Christ my blessed saviour and redeemer my body I committ to the earth to be decently buried and for my wordly estate I dispose thereof as followeth:

Further my will and meaning is that if the said Margery my wife shall happen to marry again or to be marryed to any man after my decease then and in such case the six acres of land more or less lying in or nigh Easty Feild and in this my will before mentioned I give and devise the said six acres of land after such the second marriage to be forthwith sold and the money to be disposed of after the same manner to those my six children in this my will before mentioned and my desire is if my son John Cocksedge can or will purchase the said six acres of land that he may have it as cheap or cheaper than any other person all the rest and residue of my goods & chattels Cowes Houses and all manner of Household stuffe whatsoever I doe hereby give and devise unto Margery my wife for the payment of my debts funerall charges and performance of this my will which said Margery my wife I make constitute and appoint Executor of my last will and testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the marke of John Cocksedge published sealed and subscribed for my last will and testament in the presence of Geo Turner Richard Noble the marks of Thomazin Noble.

     John Cocksedge was christened on 21 November 1667 in Rougham, Suffolk. He was the son of John Cocksedge and Margery Crofts.
     John Cocksedge married Ann Bowles on 20 October 1692 in Rougham, SFK. He was described as John jr at both his marriage and his eldest two children's births.
     In John Cocksedge's will dated 20 December 1693 in Rougham, SFK,, John Cocksedge was named as heir; His will mentions his wife Margery and his six children John, Thomas, Mary, Robert, Peter & Joseph and his cousin William Cocksedge of Rougham.
In the name of God amen I John Cocksedge of Rougham Sfk yeoman being unsound in body by reason of old age but otherwise in good health and of perfect mind and memory blessed be God do make and ordain this my last will and testament this twentieth day of December in the fifth year of the reign of our Sov. lord and Lady King William and Queen Mary over England Scotland France & Ireland Defenders of the Faith ... and in the year of our Lord 1693. First I commend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God my maker in the moderation of Jesus Christ my blessed saviour and redeemer my body I committ to the earth to be decently buried and for my wordly estate I dispose thereof as followeth:
ITEM I give unto my son John Cocksedge the house where I now dwell with the home sitting thereunto adjoining conteyning six acres more or less for terme of his life and after his decease to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten for ever
ITEM I give unto Margery my loving wife the tenement where my son John Cocksedge now dwells during her natural life and after her decease to my son John Cocksedge and to the heirs of the his body lawfully begotten for ever
ITEM I give and devise unto Margery my wife the inclosed piece of land lying in Easty Feild by London Road containing three acres more or less and I give unto Margery my wife three other acres of land lying in Easty Feild more or less during her natural life and after the decease of the said Margery I give the six acres of land to be sold and the money for which the said land is sold to be equally divided among these my children here named Thomas Cocksedge Mary Cocksedge Robert Cocksedge William Cocksedge Peter Cocksedge Joseph Cocksedge excepting my daughter Mary Cocksedge and to her I give five pounds of lawfull English money more than to any of my other children out of that money the land shall be sold for. If any of these my children dye before the money be payable then I bequeath their portion or parts to the survivors and I request my cosen William Cocksedge of Rougham to assist my children in the sale of this land
Further my will and meaning is that if the said Margery my wife shall happen to marry again or to be marryed to any man after my decease then and in such case the six acres of land more or less lying in or nigh Easty Feild and in this my will before mentioned I give and devise the said six acres of land after such the second marriage to be forthwith sold and the money to be disposed of after the same manner to those my six children in this my will before mentioned and my desire is if my son John Cocksedge can or will purchase the said six acres of land that he may have it as cheap or cheaper than any other person all the rest and residue of my goods & chattels Cowes Houses and all manner of Household stuffe whatsoever I doe hereby give and devise unto Margery my wife for the payment of my debts funerall charges and performance of this my will which said Margery my wife I make constitute and appoint Executor of my last will and testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the marke of John Cocksedge published sealed and subscribed for my last will and testament in the presence of Geo Turner Richard Noble the marks of Thomazin Noble.

     John died before 2 May 1733 in Rougham, SFK. He was buried on 2 May 1733 in Rougham. John Cocksedge; but there was also a death of John Cocksedge on 5 Mar 1732/3.

     John Cocksedge was christened on 9 December 1694 in Rougham, Suffolk. He was the son of John Cocksedge and Ann Bowles.
     John Cocksedge married Catherine Nights in June 1718 in Gt Barton, Suffolk. John was widowed before 29 March 1722 in Rougham, SFK, on the death of his wife Catherine Nights.
     John Cocksedge married Margaret Bird on 19 September 1723 in Rougham, SFK.
     He must have moved from Rougham to Hessett between 1726 & 1728, see baptisms of sons Thomas and William.
Note that there were two contemporary couples having children at Rougham - John & Margaret with issue 1724 & Aug 1726 and John & Mary with issue May 1720-1729, unless John was widowed and remarried Mary but it would be unusual to baptise the younger child after the elder.
     He is presumably the overseer of the poor in Hessett from February 9 1729 to 1733 when his name (with mark) appears with those of the other churchwardens and overseers in the parish register.
     5th Sept, 1754 - Attested Copy of 24th. Nov., 1753 Deed to Lead to a Common Recovery whereby Michael [II] Leheup (of Hessett, Suff., esq; eldest son of Michael [I] Leheup, esq. and his wife Elizabeth née Gery, both deceased) conveys to Thomas Henzell (of Gray's Inn, Mdx., gent.) (a) "Hesset" or "Hegesset" manor; (b) the advowson of Hessett church; (c) "Thederistra" or "Thedwastre" hundred, Suff. which Michael [II] Leheup holds in succession to his father; (d) Hessett Hall and its appurtenances, occupied by M. [II] Leheup; (e) seven closes called "Scots Ground" at Hessett; (f) two "pightles" or pieces of land in Hessett and Bradfield, Suff. called "Hannah Pightle" and "Bristol Pightle"; (g) the farm in Hessett, Bradfield, Rougham and Drinkston[e] pas., Suff. which John Paine leases; (h) a 12-a. woodland in those four pas. and Bacton alias Bayton, Suff. also tenanted by J. Paine; (i) the farm in Hessett and Rougham which John Jacob cultivates; (j) the farm in Hessett, Rougham, Drinkstone and Bacton which is let to John Cocksedge; (k) the farm in Hessett and Drinkstone which Simon Ray holds; (l) the farm in Hessett, Bradfield, Rougham and Bacton leased by William Swan; (m) "The Bells" inn, occupied by W. Swan; (n) Thomas Holdrige's Hessett house; (o) the four cottages which Thomas Bawly, Richard Gosling, William Jewers and William Mothersole inhabit; (p) Thomas Jacob's Hessett ground; (q) those farms in the Norf. pas. or hamlets of Diss, Disheywood and "Wingfarthing" [Winfarthing] once leased to Widow Lincoln but now to Thomas Chapman; (r) the water corn mill formerly called Dilcock's Mill with a 7½-a. meadow on the southern side of Coventry and near the walls (lately held by Robert Bunny but now by his executors); (s) two tenements and a workhouse in Hill St., Coventry let to John "Gulston" [Gulson]; (t) John and Charles Taylors' Coventry house; (u) a Smithford St., Coventry messuage and ground heretofore held by William Wright and later by -- Clegg; (v) a messuage and garden in "West Orchard Street", Coventry (lately occupied by Abraham Phillips but now by his widow); (w) a 14-a. meadow and pasture called "The Three Fields" beyond Bishop Gate, Coventry with a barn, all held by Thomas Smith; (x) Thomas Mucot's garden and two stables at West Orchard; (y) the 12-a. "Stoneyfield" beyond Bishop Gate; (z) the barn at Cook St., Coventry formerly let to William Townsend but now to John Londe; (aa) a messuage in the Butchery, Coventry which William Winterton, butcher holds; (ab) a piece of land and two pastoral closes (4½a.) called "Shuckmere" in Coventry city's liberties (lately farmed by Widow Warden but now by J. Londe); (ac) the parsonage-site at "Folkhull alias "Focell" [Foleshill] [,Coventry]; (ad) that parsonage's lands; (ae) Foleshill tithes; (af) the messuage, divided into three, in Bishop St., Coventry which William Chaplain (or his under-tenants) occupies; and (ag) "Church Lees" close at Radford [, Coventry]: all will be held so that before the end of the present Michaelmas Term Charles Le Grice (of Bury St. Edmunds, Suff., gent.) may promote a common recovery at M. [II] Leheup's expense. John was widowed before 23 January 1768 in Hessett, Suffolk, on the death of his wife Margaret Bird.
     John Cocksedge made a will dated 22 June 1785 in Stansfield, Suffolk. He mentions his children Thomas, William, Michael, Margaret & Benjamin. Will of John Cocksedge sr. of Rougham, ... but now residing in Stansfield Hall and in the said county do make this my last ... I trust my Exec. hereafter mentioned will see my body decently enterred and as to what worldly goods whether lands, moneys or chattels here or elsewhere I give and bequeath to my dear son Thos Cocksedge of Stansfield paying out of my estate and effects at Rougham first the mortgage namely £220 to my son William Cocksedge £5.00 to Michael £5.00 Margaret £5.00 Benjamin £5.00 and after the said legacies are paid and my funeral expenses discharged then my will and pleasure is that the aforesaid Thomas Cocksedge shall make the best of and receive the residue for his use and to his disposal. And lastly I do nominate my son Thomas Cocksedge sole executor ... in witness whereof... set my hand and seal 22nd June 1785. X the mark of John Cocksedge, in the presence of William Gilly sr., Richard Boreham, John Johnson.
     John died before 9 November 1785 in Hessett, Suffolk. Note that a John Cocksedge was buried at Hessett in 1745, fiche copy of entry is almost illegible. He was buried on 9 November 1785 in Hessett. He was described as a widower, aged 96.
     His will was proved in 1786 in Suffolk.
