     Catherine Clifton Dowager Duchess of Lennox married James Hamilton 2nd Earl of Abercorn as her second husband, circa 1632. According to Burke's Extinct peerage p.513, Katherine Clifton, the widow of Esme, 3rd Duke of Lennox (who died in 1624) married secondly James, Earl of Abercorn and was granted by King Charles I, a royal letter declaring that, notwithstanding the second marriage, she should retain the title and rank of Duchess of Lennox. Perhaps this is the second Earl?.
     Catherine died before 17 September 1637. She died in Scotland and was buried "without ceremonie" 17 Sep 1637 aged about 45. Her will was dated 12 Aug 1637, and proved 15 Jan 1638/9. Her husband James was then living but more than 400,000 merks in debt.. She was buried on 17 September 1637.
