Robert Boyd Master of Boyd was the son of Thomas Boyd 6th Lord Boyd and Margaret Campbell.
He married Lady Jean Kerr, daughter of the second earl of Lothian. They had issue inc. Robert, 7th Lord Boyd, and James 9th Lord Boyd who succeeded his nephew.

He was possibly the Sir Thomas Boyd of Ayrshire (or his father) who held lands in Strabane, co. Tyrone in the plantation of Ireland. His proportion of Shean lay immediately to the west of the proportion of Strabane and comprised the temporal lands in the parish of Urney. By 1613 Abercorn had taken control of Shean. These lands were transferred to his brother-in-law James Hamilton.. He was the son of Thomas Boyd 6th Lord Boyd and Margaret Campbell.

Thomas Boyd Earl of Arran was born at Scotland. Eldest son of Robert, Lord Boyd, on his marriage with Mary, eldest daughter of King James II, obtained the Isle of Arran, and other lands, and was created Earl of Arran, as appears from a charter 26 April 1467. He was later attainted and forfeited in in 1469, and he died soon afterwards. He was the son of Lord Robert Boyd and Mariota or Janet Maxwell. Thomas 'The most courteous, gentlest, wisest, kindest, most bounteous knight' and 'fairest archer, devoutest, most perfect, and truest to he lady' was created an Earl whild still Master of Boyd. He was attainted with his father and d.v.p. in the service of Charles the Bold of Burgundy on 26 April 1467.

Francis returned from his travels several years later and he & Elizabeth had several children. Later sill the family joined Charles II in exile, and Elizabeth became the second mistress of that young libertine. Francis was created Viscount Shannon by King Charles II in 1660.
Francis died before 19 April 1699 at Cork, Ireland. He was buried on 19 April 1699 at St Mary's Collegiate Church, Youghal, Cork.
